Big Question: Which Team has the Worst Kits?

By: WC Bob | March 12th, 2006 | 29 Comments »

The Big QuestionYesterday I gave mad props to the five best kits in the World Cup. Today I turn my wrath towards the five ugliest uniforms we will see this summer. Narrowing the choices down to five was a bit of a challenge but in the end I know for an absolute fact that these are the worst kits.

#5 Brazil
It isn’t often you get a chance to put Brazil in the bottom five of anything football-related, but these kits are more worthy of a bottom feeder than a world beater.
Brazil kits

#4 Ghana
In addition to being ugly, how annoying is it that they are sponsored by “pre-order.” Man, I hate that company almost as much as Budweiser.
Ghana Kits

#3 Ecuador
I like the colors but the design looks like something a kid would draw. No offense to the kids out there reading this.
Ecuador kits

#2 Croatia
Painful memories of my sister beating me in checkers go racing through my head every time I see these.
Croatia Kits

#1 Italy
I’m confused. Isn’t Italy the fashion capital of the world?

The Italy Away is so/so, but what Justin means is the Italy Home Jersey will be used more often than not. The home kit is simple and classic.

[...] Rarely have I seen a soccer kit rating list that Croatia has not been stuffed into the top five worst. See here (Muchas Gracias Senhor Bob) The shirts have been called everything from ‘the Italian tablecloths’ to ‘the colour challenged checker board’ and even ‘runway flags’. But rarely, also, have I seen a uniform evoke such national pride and instant recognition as our famed red and white ‘tablecloths’. I think the Croatia kits are the most recognizable, only trailing after the institution of the Canarinho of Brazil. [...]

this poster is an idiot. not only did he do a lack of research by including Italy’s last year uniform, you dont like Ghana’s uniform because you downloaded a jpeg image of it with the word “pre-order” in it? Plus I think Croatia’s uniform is nice as it is unique as its flag. If you want, I can send you a “pre-order” free image of Ghana’s uniform. I think all of Puma’s line this year is sick!

The brazilian kit just reached the stores so I took a peek. It’s worst when you see it close to you. The T-shirt seems fake and I was at a Nike Store. I actually like the old style design but the fabric and the font are terrible.

Seriously I agree with the previous comment. How can you list Germany as one of the best when the design is the same as Ecuadors which is on of the worst and you said you at least liked their colors. Makes no sense and this dudes opinion is worst then a person who doesnt know anything about soccer.
Croatias jerseys are so nice and distinct, as are Brazil’s. You can tell when theyre playing right away

[...] A few weeks back we provoked the ire of some nations (yeah, we’re talking about you Croatia) when we selected our choices for the worst kits at this year’s World Cup. We still stand by our choices, but after taking a look at some of the fashion disasters throughout history, we are thankful that even this year’s ugliest uniforms are not that bad. There aren’t too many national team jerseys listed on the site, but the ones that are there sure do deserve to be called out (see the Australia kit to your left). So here is your look at some of the worst kits you’ll ever see. This might not be appropriate for those with weak stomachs or adversions to bright colors. [...]

Brazil’s kit are just fine. they finally went back to the original yellow. If you liked the old one and the 2002 one, then I guess you really wouldn’t like this one.

You have to include the Nederlands home and away kits as the worst kits ever.

dude,

these people don’t get it, haha. you should do some research on bob’s posts and always take them with a grain of salt … jesus.

croatia’s current jersey is actually a very good redesign — i didn’t like the 2004, 2002, and 1998 too much, to be honest — this one’s closer to the 1996 one and kicks some serious posterior. and admit it. you were looking for an excuse to add brasil to a bottom five list! ;)

My 2 cents…

Puma really screwed up their design… The Poland, Ghana and few others will suffer. The fabric is meant to strangle the players after 30 minutes of running.

I do have the brazilian kit and I love it. Despite the fact that I have some (personal) problems with Nike, I think they did a good job at it.

I guess this topic is very subjective — after all, it’s like saying what color is your favorite.

[...] I’ve said all along that the Croatia kits are among the worst in the tournament and now you know my reason why. Now that they have gotten rid of that extra white space I might just add them to the list of best dressed teams. Awful? I like it :(

But yes, they’re a bit similar. Australia’s short is green, which makes them look more like Brazil than Brazil itself, go figure.

However, Sweden’s main kit is also much more similar to brazil’s main kit (yellow jersey, blue shorts).

Look at that:

Brazil in the bottom 5 my arse! Like practically every Nike kit this time around, it’s lovely. Far better than the template crap they usually produce. I’ve only got two problems with the Nike kits this time: Portugal must wear GREEN shorts and what’s with Holland’s blue socks? (Gotta dig their away though) If I were designing a retro Dutch kit I’d have put two stripes on the arm as an homage to Cruijff and had black shorts as 1st choice rather than white.

Croatia should NEVER change their chess board kit. Crap it may be but it’s iconic.

France’s kit is garbage this time. I was hoping for something along the same lines of the ‘84 & ‘98 strip.

Someone please tell Umbro that England’s shirts have RED numbers not navy blue.

Ghana’s white kit is a good return to tradition but the black star should be more prominent. The yellow kit should also have been kept as a second strip.

Worst kit - Trinidad & Tobago. Seriously, what the hell is it? It looks like something Pro Star knocked together. I’d have liked to see either red and black stripes or the Trini flag across the front.

Your fucking crazy saying that Brasil’s kit is ugly.. Stop hating. Their Yellow Jersey w/ white shorts and whites socks is hands down the most elegant and beautiful kit out there!
