Big Question: Which Team has the Best Kits?

By: WC Bob | March 11th, 2006 | 22 Comments »

The Big QuestionOne thing that fascinates me about football fans is their interest, sometimes obsession, with uniforms. From the club level to international teams, fans always have opinions on their teams’ uniforms and it seems like everyone is a fashion designer. You don’t see that in any other sports. With the full knowledge that I am opening up a can on worms and that my own clothes rarely match, here’s a look at what I think are the top five kits we’ll see at the World Cup this summer.

#5 Portugal
The new black look is pretty cool.
Portugal Kits

#4 Saudi Arabia
I’m not entirely sure what is going on with this pattern, but I dig it.
Saudi Arabia Kits

#3 Argentina
A classic with the always distinctive colors. Stripes are also very slimming.
Argentina Kits

#2 Germany
At least the home country will look good when it loses this summer.
Germany Kits

#1 Netherlands
Sorry Nike haters, but these are sweet.
Netherlands Kits

Big Question: Which team has the best kits?
Big Answer: Netherlands

Think Spain’s home shirt is pretty cool.
Also pleased adidas have given their kits 1980’s retro style 3 stipe numbers.

I like the new US kits a lot, but their badge has got to go. How about something with an eagle or a snake, instead of that hideous block lettering?

The Saudi Kit is really weak. They just will wear white shirts and green shorts with white socks. Ireland should be the only country allowed to use this combo. The Dutch Kit is by far the best. Portugal is awesome. The US also have something eyecatching in both their home and away uniforms. The Austrailia kits are very cool, so check them out.

hey nicholas,

you got the Saudi kit specification wrong.

It’s white jersey with white short and white socks with a green strip.

Here’s how it looks like

The kit’s other set is all green.. http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/w/photos/ksa.html?i=5&d=1

Better than all the kits listed are the Spanish home and away kits. And im not too sure about the Netherlands being #1.

Negative the nike kits suck i could make those jerseys the basic and uninspired. Im a argentina faithful but that jersey is almost as bad as the reebok jersey.
The italy jersey is fantastic and germany’s second jersey.

I truelly cannot understand why you place HOL in #1… The “away” kit is quite nice (although no more than normal) but the “home” is quite ugly… Take away the “blue socks + orange shirt” combination and you still might save it… Keep one or the other. I’d put more orange there, actually.

The rest:

Germany #1

Portugal #2 (the “away” is super cool; the “home” just as well with the dark-red almost as dark as the kit from 1966) - I’m not neutral on this one, sorry…

Argentina #3 (sorry Damion)

Also like the Brazilian, although they always look the same.

Italy # “solid Last” :-) Guys, PLEASE don’t come out on the street with those kits on. PLEASE!!!

This opinion smells of BIAS. Italy beats Holland 4-1, Holland has the best kit and Italy the worst? Haha please. The Dutch kit is one of the worst in the nike line up. It looks like Orange puke!

[...] For those interested in the business side of things, this article breaks down how the apparel makers will duke it out to get into your wallet. For those who like to question my fashion taste, here’s what I think are the best and worst kits in the tournament. For those who are interested in what teams wear what, here is a list I have put together. For those who aren’t interested at all, there is always tomorrow. [...] Yesterday I gave mad props to the five best kits in the World Cup. Today I turn my wrath towards the five ugliest uniforms we will see this summer. Narrowing the choices down to five was a bit of a challenge but in the end I know for an absolute fact that these are the worst kits. [...]

I agree, nike has done a poor job overall with their line this year. Hollands’ home jersey is a joke and looks way too retro with no modern touch. However, their away jersey is suprisingly nice and different from what they have had before. I dont get why this poster thinks Saudi Arabia should be in the top five when a almost similar Ghana jersey is in the bottom five? I do agree with Germany and Argentina in the top five, but that’s it.

Also up there, should be;
- Czech Republic/Poland (puma)
- Japan
- Italy

To be honest with everyone here, but I dont think any of kits look good this year. My favorites are from Euro 2004. Especially those nike ones used by Russia, Hollond, Croatia, and Portugal. The Brazilian kit in 2004 looked pretty good to.

Brazil’s kit is the best, feller. No other uniform inspires the players and scares the opposition so much.

Granted, part of this is due to historical results ;), but of course prior history adds to our perception of things, y’know?

Brazil is like the playground bully - if that playground bully did tricks all the time while socking players, laid down a fair set of rules, and laid the smack down justly and with results.

Yellow and Blue forever.

You must be kidding me? The Portuguese jeysey in Black has been criticize by the Portuguese community. Dude, out of all your picks there, only Germany and Holland are nice.

Your worst jerseys are even a bad pick.

Catch a clue.
