Big Question: Which Players will return to the World Cup All-Star Team?

By: WC Bob | April 17th, 2006 | 6 Comments »

Four years is a long time in the football world. That really becomes evident when you take a look at the 16 players that were selected for the All-Star team from the 2002 World Cup. For the most part, the superstars four years ago are either not even going to play in this year’s World Cup or they will have limited roles on their teams. There are a few exceptions and it is your job today to pick which of these guys you think will be named to this year’s All-Star team.

Here are the 16 players that were chosen in 2002:

Keepers: Oliver Kahn (Germany), Rustu Recber (Turkey)

Defenders: Roberto Carlos (Brazil), Sol Campbell (England), Hong Myung-bo (South Korea), Alpay Ozalan (Turkey), Fernando Hierro (Spain)

Midfielders: Claudio Reyna (USA), Rivaldo (Brazil), Ronaldinho (Brazil), Yoo Sang-chul (South Korea), Michael Ballack (Germany)

Forwards: Ronaldo (Brazil), Miroslav Klose (Germany) El Hadji Diouf (Senegal), Hasan Sas (Turkey)

Any of them going to shine in Germany? Who are the new guys who will make the cut?

I would drop Rivaldo de Niro from this post. Roberto Carlos will smash the bad comments about him.

Ronaldinho, Ballack, possibly Ronaldo and Klose, too.

I doubt Campbell will make the list, he’s had too many problems this season. Ronaldinho will, possibly Ronaldo. I would say that Wayne Rooney will make the team, he’s been in top form all season.

What about the World Cup Allstar-Team?

Interesting question to ask. What will the Allstar Team 2006 look like? I got this idea from the World Cup Blog. Every World Cup brings up new faces that nobody really knew about before? Here´s the complete 2002´s team:
Keepers: Oliver Kahn (Germany)…
