Big Question: What is your Dream World Cup Final?

By: WC Bob | March 31st, 2006 | 41 Comments »

Today seems like a good day to suspend reality, so throw away your inhibitions and play along with us on this one. Forget the tournament groupings. Ignore which teams are in good form and which teams are not. Pay no attention to world rankings or odds. If you had the magical ability to select any two teams from this year’s 32-team field and to match them up in your dream World Cup final, which two teams would you choose and why. Here are a few matches we’d like to see.

Brazil – Argentina
One of the great rivalries in all of sports. The amount of talent on the field would be enough to keep us smiling all the way to South Africa 2010.

England- Germany
Insert inappropriate joke(s) about war.

Spain – Anybody
People might finally stop talking about all the Spanish failures. Well, only if they actually won.

Tunisia – Saudi Arabia
What could be better than a group play match between these teams? How about a rematch in the final!

Angola – Togo
Could you imagine how cool it would be if the longest of the long shots actually played in a World Cup final? One billion people around the world would have to visit World Cup Blog just to figure who plays for these teams.

Serious or not, we’d like to hear your dream World Cup final. Go ahead and leave your comments.

Few matches I wouldn’t attend (you figure out the reason why)

USA - Iran
Serbia - Croatia

As to dream final?
ugh, there are few.

ARG - BRA (Classic clash of the fans!)
ENG - GER (better beef up the fences)

Either way, can’t wait!

I have to go Brazil vs Holland. The atomspher in Dallas in 94 was great and the game was even better.

I however would really like for someone other than Brazil to be in the Finals this time around so Germany vs Holland is what I am hopeing for.

As I am portuguese, a POR vs BRA final would be the tops. POR winning, of course. ;-) Two teams that like to play pretty and good. Also because BRA is the best in WCs, because of what they stand for in the way they play and because of our joint history and all the bonds we share. Not to mention it’d be a final spoken in portuguese. :-)

If not BRA than a team that likes to play ball. CRO, HOL, CZE, ARG and ENG would be my choices. Although if the english win, nobody can shut them up in the next decades…

If POR doesn’t reach it, than I’d vote for BRA against a tallented underdog or even two tallented underdogs. To be there and to win. It’s also time for new blood.

In either case, should POR go home, Euler you can count on a huge support to the brazilian hexa from Lusitania. I don’t care if sometimes you’re snob. In my view you’ve gained that right. It’s not “puxa saquismo”… ;-)

Brazil v. France ( a rematch of 1998’s final; i’m sure this time the outcome would be different)

Brazil v. Argentina (messi v. robhinio, Ronaldhinio v. Riquelme) Could be a very good match up

Holland v Germany would be a classic. A wonderful rivalary. Some key moments that come to mind World Cup ‘90 Voeller v Frank Rijkaard. Euro ‘92 group phase- what a match, 1974 WC Final. This would be a treat for football fans all over the world. By the way! Holland v Brazil or Argentina wouldn’t be bad either. England v Germany would also be a classic.

I know, I know… keep it coming.

Posts like these compensate the hard times. Look how many people mentioned the Seleção.

I hope they deliver what people are expecting grom them.

Hi Euler! I’m brazilian, and like World Cup atmosphere a lot!

I’ll try to make part of several debates about FIFA Tournament.

More games I’d like to see in this World Cup (not necessarily Final matches):

Germany - England (tough match)
Italy - Germany (4-1 revenge?)
Croatia - Serbia (good fight!)
USA - Iran (not pacific match this time)
Czech Rep - Holland (fine skills, best match Euro-2004)

1. Mexico - Argentina

I wouldn’t want to see Brazil in the finals these year cause they’ll probably win and that would give em 6 stars, how can anybody catch them then.

2. Italy - England
3. Netherlands-Italy
4. Ukraine - Netherlands.

[...] Yesterday we asked you for your dream World Cup final. Today we turn the tables and ask you which World Cup final match you don’t want to see. We have some thoughts on this matter as well and present a few championship matches that might make us reconsider what we will be doing on July 9. [...]

Wouldn’t want to see Croatia vs Serbia (too much blood and there’s enough violence on TV) Would like USA vs any elite team. Great US exposure and maybe a good game.

Argentina vs Brasil and dont give me that Confederations Final BS. That was mainly Argentinas B team. These teams both have the most talent and it would be a great final but I think that the most likely final and it would be great as well is Italy vs Argentina. I see Messi scoring about 5 goals , Tevez 4 goals in the tournament and throw crespo in for 2 and there you have it, Argentina WC champions.

Netherlands vs. Spain
Perhaps the two best teams never to have won a world cup.

USA vs. Germany
I always route for the US, and then if they get knocked out, switch to the Germans.

england v germany

germany gets a one point head start

england equalises with a volley from lampard…from his own half

beckham breaks his leg …

micheal ballack scores in a penalty

robinson scores a goal

half time 2-2

germany slots one past robinson with a free kick from frings

germany domonjates possesion until the 89th minute when robinson passes to john terry, terry throughs it to lampard lampard is about to get tackled when he taps it to gerrad then gerrrad hits it home.

extra time involves two goals one from lampard one from ballack

PENALTYS! in the penalty shoot out 3goals are scored untill there is one left for england to win. The suspense then rooney slots it in the topleft hand corner. the english smile and cheer as the germans sink their faces into thier bratwurst.

ENGLAND = WORLD CUP 40YEARS COME ON ENGLAND
