Big Question: What has been the Best and the Worst Groups to Watch?

By: WC Bob | June 23rd, 2006 | 23 Comments »

This is it. After today all of the group play matches are finished and we start getting really serious with knockout games. Some of the groups brought us exciting matches and tense moments. Other groups delivered some less than spectacular play.

From a fan’s perspective, what do you think was the best group to watch and what group was the least interesting?

Group F has been interesting. As an Englishman watching from Australia, Australia have been very exciting to watch. Brazil are almost more interesting when they’re playing well below-par. Japan leading Brazil was interesting until Brazil hit their straps. Croatia are/were the disappointment of group F. Played well against Croatia but very uninspiring against Japan and Australia.

Are you kidding?!?

Argentina’s battle with the Ivory Coast…
Holland fighting tooth and nail against Serbia…

The 6-0 thrashing by Argentina, and
Ivory Coast’s nail-biteing loss to the Netherlands?

Then the classic war between the the 2 heavyweights and the elephants turn the game around against S&M.

Easily the best group to watch.

What are all your one word answers supposed to mean??? He asked for your best and worst groups!
My best was group E – most exciting upsets and controversies by far!
Dullest by a longshot was group D.

Group C was my best :)

Group D was probably the worst?

I cant quite seem to pick an entire group as the best and the worst. Actually worst was easier. Its hard to pick the best, because most of them had a 50/50. 2 or 3 matches good and 2 or 3 bad/boring ones.

group a was by far the most boring. but i think alot of groups this cup have had too many average teams. best to watch is a tie between groups e and f. alot of entertaining matches. i’ll add group h to the boring list. australia, ghana, ecuador have been good suprise packets this cup and deserve the recognition. they have played some of the best attacking football outside of spain and argentina. the average sides that are going through are the netherlands. for all there scoring power they have been average. good defense though. does anyone else think england play like england every world cup. never stand out and never look good like they will win the cup but still pass the first round.

G has been dull for me. I suppose tonight could change that.

Group C wasn’t the worst but it was disappointing because the tension went out of it so quickly.

E and F games were great to watch (but I’m completely biased about Group F).

None of the groups have blown me away, they’ve all had their share of winners and duds. That said, if I was forced to choose I’d say Group A.
