Big Question: What are your final 8 teams?

By: WC Bob | June 3rd, 2006 | 46 Comments »

You’ve showed us how smart you are at predicting the groups but now it is time to take things to the next level. We are less than a week away from the start of the World Cup and it is time to get your big predictions down on record so you can remind us all how smart you are after they come true.

Today you get to tell us the eight teams that will make the quarter-finals. Don’t worry about picking the semi-finals and finalist quite yet. For now, go ahead and correctly name the final eight teams.

This being the World Cup, I figured that there has to be some wild, unexpected events. So I guess France, Germany, Italy, and Czech leaving earlier than would be expected and Croatia, Tunisia, and S. Korea going further than expected.

My predix (first place listed first)
Group A Germany, Ecuador
Group B England, Sweden
Group C Netherlands, Argentina
Group D Portugal, Angola
Group E USA, Italy
Group F Brazil, Croatia
Group G Switzerland, SKorea
Group H Tunisia, Spain

Next round, * by the winner
*Germany vs Sweden
*Netherlands vs Angola
*England vs Ecuador
*Portugal vs Argentina
USA vs *Croatia
*Switz vs Spain
*Brazil vs Italy
Tunisia vs *S.Korea

Next round:
*Neth vs Germany
*Croatia vs Spain
*Port vs England
*Brazil vs S. Korea

Neth beats Croatia, Brazil beats Portugal.
Brazil beats Neth for the crown, Portugal takes third.

every year is the same thing ppl put down brazil on final against some teams for no reason, lets keep it real just talking about numbers, but sure when playing the match anything can happen, so we can see always a surprise, my list with the 8 teams and they history, ^^ funny to see brazil get almost 2 times more wins and less losses then argentina… :P

those may be not the final 8, but i have the feeling that most of them will be there and one of then will be the chanpion.

1 Brazil

Errr, Chakan, check the records for The Czech Republic, the Swedes and the Dutch, will you?

The Czechs are not a new country, they are the successor to Czechoslovakia of old; their record includes two final appearances, btw. As for the Netherlands: two finals, one semi. And as for the Swedes: one final, three semis. In my book, these are better records than the Portuguese one.

As for the Serbs, they are the successor state to Yugoslavia, with two semis to their name.

Please, people, Serbia and the Czech Republic are the successor states, recognised by both FIFA and the United Nations as such.
