Big Question: What are the Top 5 Teams not in the World Cup?

We’ll admit to enjoying those Ryan Giggs commercials that show him puttering around the house while his teammates are off playing in the World Cup. Of course, Giggs is not alone in having to watch the tournament on television. There are plenty of top notch players and quality teams that did not qualify for the big show in Germany. Using our very scientific analytic tool called subjectivity, we’ve put together our list of the top five best teams that will not be part of history in 2006.

1. Cameroon
2. Turkey
3. Uruguay
4. Greece
5. Denmark

Honorable mention: Egypt, Nigeria, Senegal, Russia, Romania

What do you think? What’s your top five?

I really feel bad about Uruguay. They are part of football’s history and could be an interesting South-american force, less arrogant ones, at least.

    bob,

nigeria is # 1 of the non-participating teams, but you already know that.

    plus: bulgaria, turkey, senegal, cameroon.

I like your five except I would replace Greece with Nigeria or Russia. I don’t think Greece’s defensive tactics would stand up to South American attacks.

    Nigeria
    Colombia
    Turkey
    Cameroon
    Argentina “b” team :)

Greece tactics stod up to France, Czech Republic and Portugal twice.

Nigeria? Hm, a honorable mention, not more. Another team that’s surely hard to beat is Ireland.

    Wow, my 5 non-participating teams :
1- Danmark (great team , play in 4-4-2 traditional or 4-3-3 offensive !)
2- Cameroon (Etoo … want more??)
    3- Uruguay (Force and tradition)
    4- Nigeria (Wonderful style play)
    5- Greece – (the european champion !)
