Beenhakker: Polish Football is Behind the Times
It hasn’t taken new coach Leo Beenhakker to stir things up in Poland. The man who led Trinidad and Tobago to the World Cup this year has fired back at critics who have complained that a Dutchman is leading their national team.
“I know these words will damage me but I believe your football has completely lost contact with the outside world. Poles play now as we did 20 years ago. Abroad, foreign football has moved on. Here it has stood still,” Beenhakker said.
Beenhakker happens to be right about this. The domestic league in Poland is not very strong, but it certainly could be with the wealth of talented players that exist in the country. Keep a close eye on how Poland does during Euro 2008 qualifying. Beenhakker knows what he is doing and he might just have the moxie to make Poland a threat again.
