Back to the Orphanage

Puma’s grand Adopt-a-German bus tour has finally come to an end and what did we learn from this great marketing adventure? We learned that the 12 Germans picked to participate spent nearly all their time giving media interviews. When they weren’t talking to the media, they were blogging about talking to the media. What a blown opportunity. We were hoping to read titillating accounts of their fun, instead we got passages like, “Of course we drank a lot, and danced a lot… As a result the flight home yesterday was a bit hard.” You know there are some missing details behind that entry.

Despite the utter boringness of the campaign, I’ll admit that I checked in on occasion. Mainly I was curious to see if the bus driver was going to drive the bus off of a cliff. But I also put myself through the torture of reading the blogs because the campaign did have the potential to be a lot more fun. And I was a bit smitten for Sabine.

Hopefully in South Africa 2010 they’ll get it right and do an Adopt-a-Blogger contest. Hire the 30+ men and women who write for World Cup Blog, give us no shortage of booze, keep us away from any and all media interviews, and let our fingers type like crazy. Oh the hilarity that would ensue…

I will read anything Sabine writes and buy Puman products if they include more photos of her.
