Argentina, Brazil and Italy World Cup Squads Announced

The news continues to come in fast and furious with the some traditional giants releasing their World Cup rosters. Tournament holders Brazil feature a familiar roster with some of the game’s biggest names, including the quartet of Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Adriano and Kaka. On paper you can see why this team is considered the favorite by most people.

Argentina’s list is also unofficially out and based on the comments over on the Argentina blog coach Jose Pekerman won’t be invited for dinner to most of readers’ houses anytime soon. The coach not only reportedly left out World Cup Blog’s very own Sergio Aguero, but also has chosen Lionel Scaloni, while opting to leave Javier Zanetti and Walter Samuel at home. Looking at this list, Argentina has a lot of firepower, but will it have the defense to win the World Cup?

As we were typing this, the Azzurri squad was released. Despite the controversies swirling around him and Italian football, Buffon made the list. This is an Italy side that has its share of talent and is unusually strong at the forward position. I like what I see from Lippi’s selections.

We’ve also found out the players who will represent Cote d’Ivoire and Ukraine, two teams that could make some noise this summer.

We’re doing our best to maintain the complete team-by-team roster listings as they continue to pour in on the final deadline day. Check out the various team blogs for analysis and to post your comments on the various teams’ selections.

Did you notice how many Brazilians play in the ‘inferior’ (as Franz Beckenbauer claims) Bundesliga? Maybe Brazil’s not so invincible after all. :)
