Abstinencewatch™: A Little Lovin’ is Italy’s Secret Weapon
In the round of 16, we saw a classic battle of philosophies when England played Ecuador. England prevailed despite predictions that their non-abstinent ways would be a detriment to their performance on the pitch. In the quarterfinals we will once again see a battle of wills when Italy takes on Ukraine.
By now, loyal Abstinencewatch™ readers – we know there are millions of you out there – are aware that Ukraine coach Oleg Blokhin is on record as saying he will allow his players to have fun with their significant others if the team makes the semifinals. A win against Italy will do just that so there is loads of pressure on Ukraine in this game. Of course, if they lose they will presumably be able to have fun too, but don’t tell the players that.
On the other side of the spectrum is Italy, which like England, Germany and Brazil, allows their players to spend some quality time with their loved ones during the World Cup. In fact, Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro, recently voted sexiest World Cup player, sees this as a part of his training regime.
“For an athlete it’s as important how you behave off the pitch as you do on it,” Cannavaro said. “Eating well, getting plenty of sleep and having sex – all of these things are important.” Asked how often he has sex, Cannavaro replied: “Whenever I want to, it helps me.”
Saturday will be yet another epic experiment in competing World Cup philosophies and Abstinencewatch™ will be keeping a close eye on Cannavaro and others to see which side will prevail.
We’ll also be keeping a close eye on our heart rates.
