Abstinencewatch™: Ukraine Players Offered Semis Sex Incentive

By: WC Bob | May 30th, 2006 | 5 Comments »

For months now we have been detailing the differing philosophies World Cup coaches have towards whether or not to allow their players to have sex during the tournament. This is important information to know if you are betting on a particular team. Today, Ukraine coach Oleg Blokhin revealed a new approach: offering his players the chance to spend time with their significant others if they advance to the semi-finals.

“I would personally send my players to see their wives if we reach the (World Cup) semis. Those who don’t feel like it, I’ll just drag to their wives. Take my word for it,” Blokhin told Russian daily Sport-Express on Tuesday.

The image of Blokhin dragging his players to go have sex with their significant others is priceless. Somehow we don’t think he’d need to do much dragging to get Andriy Shevchenko to go see his wife.

But if you think about it, is this really an incentive? If Ukraine loses in the first round its players will get to go home and have all the fun they want anyway.

For those keeping score at home, and we know you are, here’s how things are shaping up in the World Cup sex department.

okay it may just be me but this does not seem like the best set up for a player. one the incentive for making it to the semis is that if you win that game you are in the finals. not a whole lot of need for another distraction? second if you are in need of your wife or significant other then why not bomb out in the first round and your in their arms a week earlier. So it may just be me but that does not seem like a great incentive.

Now if you want to go with for every win that night or the next day is spent with the significant other then that sound like an even better reason to push for that game winner in the last 10 minutes.

But Ecuador coach Luis Suarez shows he serious about the team’s no-sex policy at the World Cup. After all, the ban applies to the coach as well! [...]

[...] 3:37 Good to see Schevchenko playing - it wouldn’t be the same without the Chelsea superstar. How will Ukraine cope without sex for this tournament. Well, they just missed a good chance. [...]
