A Reason to Wear Sunglasses at Night

By: WC Bob | May 9th, 2006 | 7 Comments »

I came across a small blurb yesterday about the jersey colors that have been assigned for the 48 group play matches. Brazil will wear yellow against Croatia, the US will wear blue against Italy, Germany will wear white against Costa Rica, etc. When I got to the name Costa Rica, I remembered that I hadn’t seen the Ticos jersey yet. Well, here it is and all I can say is we have a new addition to this year’s worst kits list. I love the fact it is the only Joma-made kit in the tournament, but looking at that design for the first 90 minutes of the World Cup without sunglasses might lead to permanent eye damage.

My new nightmare final is Croatia against Costa Rica. I have nothing against either team, but my eyes are easily distracted by colors and patterns. They’re still trying to recover from my last trip through the Football Shirts Hall of Shame.

Ah, the first Corey Hart reference of the day, and it’s not even noon.

Actually, this is good news. When the Ticos play Ecuador in June, people will think the Ecua jerseys rock.

Why is the USA going to wear blue against Italy? That will mean the Azzurri will have to be wearing white, which is their away strip. Why have two teams both wearing their away kits when their home kits do not clash? Am I missing something here?

One of my associates from the islands just bought a Costa Rican kit here the other day and grudgingly paid about $90 for that puppy. I told him if it was a genuine kit, it was worth it.

Now he’s trying to figure out how to get the players to sign it since they will be at a hotel very near us here in Heidelberg (just want to say that I am located in Germany, but when I use this one secure computer on a U.S. installation, I guess it registers I am posting from the U.S. That is why you may see sometimes Germany and sometimes U.S. as my posting origin).
