1970 Brazil World Cup Winners Voted Best Team of All Time
It is a great pub debate. Close your eyes and try to envision the greatest football team of all time. For those who lived through the era, the 1970 World Cup winning Brazil side is often the team that comes into view first. With Pelé in his last World Cup final, captain Carlos Alberto, Jairzinho, Tostão, Gérson and Rivelino leading the way, Brazil steamrolled through the competition to hoist the trophy.
World Soccer magazine polled a group of “experts” from around the world to determine the top goals, top games and the top teams of all time. The 1970 Brazil bunch heads the list followed by the 1953 Hungary side and the 1974 Dutch team that lost to West German in the World Cup final. The 1958 and 1982 Brazil teams join the 1970 squad in the top ten, while France’s national team from 1998-2000 is the most recent team to make the elite list.
What do you think? Was the 1970 team the best and is there another World Cup team that should be on the list?

It’s just some group’s subjective opinion no matter how “definitive” they wish their opinions to be. The Brazil vs Italy game from World Cup 1982 was voted number 12 best of all time but for many it is the greatest of all time, and in the certainly top 5. Again, that 1982 Italy side could easily be voted in the top 10 if not top 5; it not only beat the defending champions Argenitina but also the favored Brazilians who had, by many accounts, 1 of the best teams ever.
