Is Essam El-Hadary Testing the Webster Ruling? Maybe, maybe not

March 5th, 2008 | By: Laurie | 1 Comment »

Is Essam El-Hadary going to be our test case for the Webster ruling, or isn’t he? The battle is on.
Just last week Daryl was saying that Essam El-Hadary, the African Cup of Nations-winning goalkeeper from Egypt, was going to be the Webster test. Webster, if you remember, is the extremely controversial new ruling [...]

February 26th, 2008 | By: Daryl | 5 Comments »

Ghanaian tabloid Graphic Sports recently ran a story about a Ghanaian family claiming kinship with Barcelona and Cameroon superstar striker (and all time Africa Cup of Nations top scorer, I might add) Samuel Eto’o. This wouldn’t make Eto’o any less Cameroonian, because that’s where his mother is form. But it would make him half-Ghanaian.
The tabloid [...]

After watching the majority of the games at the Africa Cup of Nations I wanted to sit down and pick a team of the tournament. But damn it was hard. I couldn’t stand to leave anyone out. Who was the best left back; Timothee Atouba, Arthur Boka or Taye Taiwo? I couldn’t choose. How [...]

February 10th, 2008 | By: Daryl | 4 Comments »

Today’s Africa Cup of Nations Final was a well-contested game between two well-drilled teams, and in the end it all came down to one mistake. Poor old Rigobert Song has been a man mountain of a central defender all tournament, the rock on which Cameroon have built their counterattacks. The Cameroon captain made his first [...]

February 9th, 2008 | By: Daryl | 3 Comments »

After three weeks of mostly brilliant football, there’s just one game to go. Egypt vs Cameroon in the Africa Cup of Nations Final. Egypt have arguably looked the better team, especially with their majestic 4-1 win over Cote d’Ivoire in the semifinal, but Cameroon seem to keep getting the job done.

February 9th, 2008 | By: Daryl | No Comments »

Here’s the reason Cameroon’s Andre Bikey will miss the Africa Cup of Nations Final on Sunday. Still can’t quite figure out what he was thinking. Can you? While medics were treating Rigobert Song, Bikey came charging in and shoved one of them to the ground, and got himself a red card.
Ironically the man he pushed [...]
