June 2007 FIFA World Rankings
Another month, another set of FIFA world rankings that we can all take a look at and then forget about for another 30 days. The June rankings see Italy holding on to the top spot, while the team they beat in the 2006 World Cup final, France, moves up a couple of spots to claim second place. Further down the list we see the United States leaping 13 spots to claim the 16th ranking. Sure they have played well in the Gold Cup, but a leap that big? I thought this new ranking system was supposed to be better. One thing it has not done is change the fate of American Samoa. For the nine millionth month in a row they are in last place.
The June 2007 FIFA World Rankings top 10
1. Italy 1653 pts
2. France 1585 (+ 2 places)
3. Brazil 1484 (- 1)
4. Germany 1467 (+ 1)
5. Argentina 1373 (- 2)
6. Portugal 1323 (+ 1)
7. Spain 1273 (+ 2)
8. England 1240
9. Netherlands 1220 (- 3)

The US rise is due to the fact that Continental Finals matches count 3x normal. If we win the Gold Cup and get to the knock-out round in the Copa America we will be in the top 10. And we will probably remain there until UEFA,CAF and AFC finish theirs (unless of course there is an upset winner in the Copa).
