FIFA Rankings October 2006

By: WC Bob | October 18th, 2006 | 14 Comments »

It is that time of the month when we all get to sit back and chuckle at the FIFA rankings system. There is once again no change at the top with Brazil holding the number one ranking for what seems like the 7,000th month in a row. There is also no change at the bottom with American Samoa still winless after 20 years. In between, there are a bunch of changes. Malta is a big mover and shaker advancing 33 places after stunning Hungary earlier this month for their first win since 1993. My beloved Kazakhstan has fallen big time after a pair of home losses in Euro 2008 qualifying. The United States remains the 29th best team in the world, mere centimetres better than Guinea.

The Top Ten

1 Brazil
2 Italy
3 France
4 Argentina
5 England
6 Germany
7 Netherlands
8 Czech Republic
9 Portugal
10 Spain

their world cup team beat Italy’s B team…big deal and England stinks, who can’t beat them these days..It’s Croatia’s poor showing in the world cup that is keeping them out of the top ten.

England being rated ahead of Germany is a joke. England couldn’t even beat Macedonia at home. Does anybody think that England can beat Germany? Pretty soon Samoa will put England on their friendly schedule. Rooney is a head case and needs a shrink real bad. Crouch would make a great flag pole but a lousy forward. Their goalie can’t even return a kick. Their middle field has gotten even worse since WC2006. David Beckham has seen better days but at least he could help his team a lot more if he was on the team instead of just playing with Real Madrid. Maybe England should hire Bruce Arena to be their new coach.

Who is England paying off at FIFA to be ranked in the top 10! How ludicrous.

I don’t hate England. It’s just that your team hasn’t been playing at the level that is expected of a #6 in the world. Being tied 0-0 by Macedonia at home is a pretty bad result. The WC 2006 performance was not anywhere near what was expected from England. Your own press isn’t very happy either and your fans seem to be ready to revolt. For England to be rated #6 they will have to raise their competetiveness a few levels. Scotland right now is playing better than the 3 lions.

I don’t think it makes you anti-England to question a #5 position on the list. Besides, English fans certainly know how to dish it out. It won’t kill you to take a little criticism.

i agree, with the amount of individual talent that england has, their results are pitiful.
germany are in insane form these days, they should be 3rd if not 2nd.

Argentina should be ranked way lower, something like 8 or 9. Also how the h*ll did Portugal make the top ten? Someone should re-check the math.

England suck, they blow. They couldn’t even give each other a good time (you figure that one out).
