FIFA World Rankings or World Football Elo Ratings - Which is Better?

September 4th, 2008 | By: Daryl | 14 Comments

The September FIFA World Rankings were announced yesterday, without too many changes from August. Euro 2008 champs Spain are still numero uno and Italy have traded places with Germany to take second. I'm assuming the Olympics has no impact on FIFA's rankings because gold medalists Argentina and silver medlaists Nigeria's ranking remains ... [read]

Ronaldinho's Swedish Proposal

August 27th, 2008 | By: Chris | 14 Comments

Ronaldinho loves the nightlife, loves the ladies, so the Olympic Village was surely a special place for him. One of the most famous faces in the world of sport and he was at the world's biggest sporting event. But Dinho had his eyes set on one special lass, namely Swedish footballer Johanna ... [read]

Artur Boruc Handed A Very Long International Siesta

August 23rd, 2008 | By: Chris | 7 Comments

No big surprise: while on international duty some players - the Polish trio of Artur Boruc, Dariusz Dudka and Radoslaw Majewski - decided to break curfew and have a drunken night on the town. Luckily they were only with Polish journalists, not prostitutes like the Czechs, so it wasn't that embarrassing. Though ... [read]

Argentina Defends Their Olympic Gold Medal

August 23rd, 2008 | By: Chris | 8 Comments

In an Olympic gold medal game marked strangely by two extra stoppages in play for water breaks, Argentina got the lone goal and that's all they needed to defend their gold medals, as they'll look to go to London for a three-peat. Angel Di Maria - a revelation these games for those who don't pay attention to the Portuguese league ... [read]

The US women's team won gold today in the Olympics on the heels of a 1-0 extra time victory against Brazil. So that's nice. Funny though, because that lone goal was down to some pretty rubbish keeping by Barbara of Brazil. Proving once again Brazil produces wonderful, wonderful outfield players, but they still can't ... U-21 Playoffs: Mighty Spain bows to Switzerland

October 12th, 2008 | By: Jan | 0 Comments

An extraordinary result that in many ways compensates for the disappointments Swiss football has had to experience these past two months: in the first leg of the playoffs for the Swedish 2009 Euro U-21 the young "Nati" came from behind to defeat a tough Spanish side 2-1 in Aarau. Switzerland

Futile Uruguay On The Ropes

History has categorized Uruguayan as battlers and muckers all over the pitch who use will more than skill in order to get a favorable result. Modern football have made this style of play somewhat obsolete. In order for a team to be successful, there is a need have

Game Blog: Spain at Estonia

Team: Spain
October 12th, 2008 | By: Dancy | 0 Comments

Fernando Torres is back! After missing the last 2 WCQs, which left the Spanish attack missing his trademark hunger and spine, the squad that won the Euros is back together again for these two final WCQs before next spring. Silva is still missing, but Marchena and Torres are both back from injury.

Maybe they carried their bug back to camp with them, because all week long we heard injury reports to various players, including Capel having to leave camp altogether, Iniesta and Sergio missing trainings, and Albiol practicing by himself for a day or two. Sergio still seems to be carrying the knock that he got from the last international get-together, requiring massive amounts of tape on his shoulders/waist/legs to hold in check.  This game being against Estonia, however, means that Del Bosque can afford another science experiment. The lineup:

October 12th, 2008 | By: Afshin Afshar | 0 Comments

OK! As predicted the Brazilians remain invincible; no surprise there. But what surprised even most of us Iranian fans was how well our team fought against the indomitable Selecao. Our boys lost a well fought game 1-0 to a team that had steamrolled over all opposition having scored 49 goals

Patient Oranje secures steady win: 2-0

Team: Netherlands
October 12th, 2008 | By: Jan | 5 Comments

Bert van Marwijk knew exactly what Iceland's gameplan would be. The Icelandic team didn't come to entertain the masses, go for glory or take on the Dutch. They'd try to steal a point. Van Marwijk's gameplan was clear as well. Possession. Dominating football. "Let the ball do the work" and be
