Gold For Americans Not Named Michael Phelps.

The US women’s team won gold today in the Olympics on the heels of a 1-0 extra time victory against Brazil. So that’s nice. Funny though, because that lone goal was down to some pretty rubbish keeping by Barbara of Brazil. Proving once again Brazil produces wonderful, wonderful outfield players, but they still can’t produce keepers, regardless of gender.

brazil can’t produce keepers?

In 2008, I cant believe I still hear this kind of BS.

quick list:

Taffarel gave us the 94 WC
Dida gave a champions league to Milan
Marcos was one of the best players of the 02 WC
Rogerio Ceni gave the 05 club world cup to Sao Paulo closing the goal against liverpool.

Besides these guys, people like Julio Cesar (Inter), Doni (hate him - Roma), Diego (Liverpool), Renan (Valencia just bought him), Helton (Porto), Gomes (some club in England?), Diego (one of the best keepers in the spanish league).

And Barbara made great saves during the match. So I don’t buy that.

Barbara had a great game. She stopped two breakaway sure-fire goals near the end of regulation. Brazil needs players who can score the goals (both men and women).

There was an article (well interview) in yesterday’s La Gazzetta saying that Julio Cesar was one of the three best keepers in the world. I guess someone thinks Brazil can produce keepers.

Julio Cesar was stunningly good this year, but he’s gotta have more than 2-3 years to be considered a great keeper.

Dida had a few years at the top, he’s since been shaky as hell. Milan is trying as hard as they can to dump him.
Rogerio Ceni is class, but he’s like Donovan, unproven in a real league. (The Brasilero is not a real league)
Doni is a decent keeper but he’s not world class.

Most countries have produced a keeper or two that have been considered one of the best keepers in the world in their period. Brazil has not. I’m with Chris on this one.

Why should I take seriously a dumb guy who tried to write in Portuguese and missed? It is NOT Brasilero, but Brasileiro.

The best soccer in the world doesn’t have a real league??? OK… we should blame this damn Internet for allowing retards like alessio having access to a computer.

GO GRÊMIO!!!

A few ill-considered comments from some of the writers – Brazil are producing some fine keepers as Bruno said – Gomes is at Tottenham, btw.

I’d be interested to hear why Alessio thinks the Brasileiro is not a ‘real league’
