Today the FMF announced that Mexico would play a friendly against Sweden on January 28th, 2009 in Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum at 7:30 pm PT. This will kick off the 5 game US Tour with more dates to come later. The squad will most likely feature local based players but will serve as a training ground to try out newbies for the upcoming WC qualifying.

This will be the first time Swedish coach Sven Goran Eriksson meets up with his native country while at the head of El Tri. This game is sure to be exciting because it breaks the mold

The long awaited loan move for Jozy Altidore to a possibly lower on the table side in La Liga should be waited for no more. It's not happening.

The combination of an injury bug that just won't seem to stay away from the Villarreal striker contingent, coupled with impressive play when he sees the field, as head coach Manuel Pellegrini wanting Jozy to stick around for the remainder of the season.

Altidore put in an impressive 73 minute performance in his start against Huelva on the weekend in which he battered the opponent’s goal in the opening stages, ultimately helping VCF

I'll have the full Yanks Abroad weekend recap coming tomorrow, but just before you lay your head to rest, here is a little update on a somewhat unknown Yank Abroad, Eric Lichaj. Great work to Ravi Ubha at Soccernet for this one.

The name may sound familiar. Eric Lichaj. No I don't even know how to pronounce it either. But I do distinctly recall when, seemingly out of nowhere, Premier League side Aston Villa signed him about a year ago straight out of the University of North Carolina.

A strong and smart center-half, Lichaj's career abroad got off

Lost in the holiday shuffle (at least, around here) was an article by Soccernet's Steve Davis, who says Landon Donovan might not be the only American headed to the Bundesliga come January.

According to Davis, Eintracht Frankfurt are hot on the trail of FrankenCooper, and the FC Dallas striker is getting serious about exploring the move:

The big fellow and his family may make a trip to Germany soon for a personal look-see at the Bundesliga outfit. Bernd Hölzenbein, a once-prominent German international who played for Kenny Cooper Sr. in American indoor soccer some years ago, is now a scout for

The following is a fictional account of the US MNT's Thanksgiving dinner together.

Bob Bradley Stares out over the table. Freddy Adu pounds his knife and fork against the table.

Bradley: Alright, guys. Before we eat, let's go around the table and say what we're thankful for. Jozy, why don't you start.

Altidore: Thanks, Coach Bob. First of all, I'm thankful for my mom and my dad and all my teammates and Villareal and my friend Giuseppe Rossi and puppies and the table and all this great looking food and the chairs --

Adu: I'm thankful for me! Respect The Adu! Gimme

Pia Sundhage recently spoke to the Swedish site Damfotboll to confirm the new women's professional league will be all sorts of "damproffsliga" come this Spring (apparently the translator missed that word). She also said the USWNT will work around the new league's schedule (April to September) with "two pre-April collections." She continued: "Before that, we will participate in the Algarve Cup in March." I'm guessing the two collections may be the remaining stops on this Achieve Your Gold Tour thingy... a tour that seems to think California seceded from the Union already. But I'm always open
