Sven to coach US?

By: WC Bob | September 15th, 2006 | 10 Comments »

The celestial forces of the universe are playing mind tricks on us all now that there are reports that Sven-Goran Eriksson is being considered as the next coach of the United States’ national team. Eriksson, who spent five long years as the boss of England, has said he would like to coach a big club. Not sure if the 29th ranked team in the world would fall into that category, but if he wants to collect a paycheck and not worry about facing much media pressure, the United States might be the place for him. The question I have is whether the US has the type of money that Eriksson will command and, if so, why they would want to spend it on someone like Sven.

We are so F***ed.

The US desperately needs a good coach to act as a good field general. It needs another guy to develop the raw talent - and help push some of the good players to real forces.

Sven can’t do either.

If that’s what they wanted US Soccer should have stuck with Arena.

I really doubt that the US will pick him. I can even bet my money on it.

This would keep the USA heading in the wrong direction after the peak of 2002. Let’s just hope it isn’t true.

…U.S. needs adventurous, creative fearless leader who can scout and develop all the potential millions of kids playing …Sven is another Burocrat (like Bruce,,!) ,,a relic ,a money hunter ..i hope it is not true for the love of the game….

We need a coach who has fire and spirit and is passionate about developing talent. Sven is NONE of those. Please don’t do this to US soccer.

Agreed Sven is the wrong choice. Hopefully this is just a sick joke.

The last time Sven was relevant and won something was with Lazio in 2000.

I would really like to see Klinsman get the job. I beleive the States needs someone like him now to help them get over the hump.

regards
john
