Hugo Sanchez Named Mexico Coach

By: WC Bob | November 16th, 2006 | 8 Comments »

Mexico legend Hugo Sanchez has been tapped as the country’s new football coach. It has been widely speculated the past few weeks that the former Real Madrid striker would take over for Ricardo La Volpe, who left to guide Boca Juniors after the World Cup. I think this was the best choice for Mexico. In Hugo Sanchez they have a person who is widely admired by the public, respected by the players and who has experience as a manager. He also is a outspoken guy who will surely keep us all entertained with his post-match rants and comments.

A great choice, but the FEMEXFUT could not have gone wrong with either final candidate: Sanchez, or Americo Gallego.

Hugo had the intangible qualities and winning attitude to make him one of the great strikers of all time.

Mexico has improved immensely over the years, and for many years they were just satisfied with not being blown off the pitch by superior teams.

For Sanchez to be successful, he will have to convince the players that not only do they belong on the pitch, they can beat whoever lines up on the other side of the field.

As far as hus post game rants… let’s just say he leaves the coachspeak at home.

You’re completely right John. Hugo will have to prove what he’s made of no that he has the opportunity in his hands.
