Honduras Opens Talks with Maradona about Coaching Position

By: WC Bob | October 26th, 2006 | 3 Comments »

There has been speculation for some time now that Diego Maradona would one day become a manager and on that day the team he would lead would be Argentina. Those plans might be changed a bit if Honduras has their ways. The Central American country has opened up discussions with the legend about its vacant coaching position.

“If we all shoot in the same direction we could form a good team,” Maradona said. “I have spoken with many people who say this football (team) is good.”

Shooting in the same direction is usually a wise strategy unless that direction is towards your own goal.

If Honduras can scrape together enough money to lure Maradona away from whatever it is he does these days, I could see this happening, but it is hard for me to imagine him lasting too long in that position. He might be a fine coach and Honduras could turn out to be an above average squad but it just seems too far away from the spotlight for a guy like the great one.

it’s all about the star effect and while maradona was a great player that does not mean he will be a great coach. despite his playing success he lacked leadership as a player, he was inconsistent and an undisciplined druggie. now he is traveling around milking the last bit of fame his name evokes and saying all sort of stupidities like his love for that killer fidel castro.
honduras has qualified coaches and I hope they stay away from this new argentinian vedette who is only after the mullah!!

I wonder how many kilos of coke Maradona will hold out for. He is so in to himself there probably won’t be room on the team for anybody else. Why doesn’t he go coach Venezuela that way all the world’s Castro lovers will be in one place. I mean the Castro lovers that aren’t named Fidel and Raul.
