Cherundolo: Jurgen Klinsmann the Next U.S. Coach

By: WC Bob | November 28th, 2006 | 24 Comments »

That quick little search for the next United States national soccer coach seems to be taking a bit longer than some might have anticipated, but in the interim we can all sit back and be entertained by the speculation and rumors.

A few days back we learned that former Argentina Jose Pekerman would take the gig. Not so fast my friends. The word today is that Jurgen Klinsmann is the man and that word comes from none other than U.S. and Hanover defender Steve Cherundolo via German television.

Asked whether the former Germany trainer will become Team USA trainer, Cherundolo responded, “According to my information, yes.” There has been no official confirmation yet, as US Football Federation president Sunil Gulati was scheduled to announce the new coach during the first December week.

Who knows where Churondolo gets his information (possibly from our USA World Cup Blog?), but I happen to think that the longer the delay the more likely it will, in fact, be Klinsmann. The former German boss is enjoying his time off and is in no rush to get back into the grind. The U.S. has time to wait and will do so if they can land Klinsmann. That’s where things stand today in the rumor world. Tune in tomorrow for an entirely different story.

Thankfully that horrible rumour that Pekerman is taking over has past.

I would really like to see Klinsman implement his system and philospohy of football on this young US team. In order for the States to be effective they should be playing a European type football.

I personally not only believe Euro football the most enjoyable to watch but the most dominant. Consider the final four teams in the WC were all from Europe.

Hi peter jachode

I passed on your message to Mr.Cherundolo and he told me that Klinsmann is fine with it. This might surprise you but he gave the following reason.

He said that calling your opinion insignificant gives you much too much credit. Who are you? What have you done for Germany? What have you done for Football? What have you done for German Football?

So that’s why he will continue to sleep like a baby regardless of what you think.

Peter, Du spinnst. Also, Peter, wie man hier so schoen sagt… Get used to it.

I agree, the USA does not need to take rejects from other countries. The USA should have the coach who was first rejected by Germany and then begged to stay and a couch that other countries want as well. Summa Summarum: JK

all this would mean, my dear Peter, that Germany at best can elevate to no. 2 in 2010. This will be so exciting. I cannot wait.

This says it all:
Pele Endorses Klinsmann for US Job
USSoccerPlayers (November 30, 2006) — For what it’s worth, Brazilian legend and worldwide soccer ambassador Pele believes that Juergen Klinsmann would be good option as head coach of the US National Team.
“He’d be good for the US boys,” said Pele at a news conference while in Duesseldorf, Germany, on Thursday, as was reported by Reuters.
“He’s an excellent trainer who led Germany to an incredible World Cup this year. He didn’t quite have the fortune he needed to win the title. I think he’d be the right man for the job,” reported German sport news agency SID.

and here Peter Jachode.. This one’s for you:
US Soccer Federation president Sunil Gulati has admitted that the former head coach of the German National Team is a finalist for the US job, which has been open since Bruce Arena left the position in July. Gulati’s decision could come as early as next week, as he targeted December when discussing his time frame in a conference call with the US media earlier this month.
If Klinsmann does get the nod it will sit well with the German public, as an opinion poll by N-TV television in Germany found that 74 percent of Germans would be pleased if the former star striker was hired by the US National Team.

all of you that have responded
to my e_mail will never understand WHAT GERMAN FUSSBALL
PRIDE is all about—it goes far
beyond what is good for the USA team or any amount of money.
He, KLINSMANN is GERMAN–played
for germany; coached the german national team and now ,for the
big DOLLAR becomes a traitor to his FATHERLAND and coaches a
team that loves to BEAT-but never will- the german team .
In my eyes—he is and always will be a TRAITOR if he takes that job……………….

Klinnsman is the right man for the Job. He has seen it all and done it all. He know the US players as well as he does the German players.

What the heck does taking on a Job of the US or any other side have to do with being a traitor?

Jurgen will always be loyal to Germany. Played in 3 WCs and Coached one. The guy is a genius!
