It wasn’t long ago when I was wondering how Luis Aragones has remained the coach of Spain. Well, apparently his bosses have more confidence that he is the right man for the job than I do. Aragones has signed a contract extension to guide Spain through Euro 2008.
Aragones did lead Spain to a friendly win over Argentina, but he also has piloted the side to losses against Northern Ireland and Sweden in Euro 2008 qualifying. After those loses he offered to resign but this offer was turned down by the Spanish Football Federation.
Loyalty is often lacking these days in sports so it will be interesting to see if Aragones can repay his bosses for their loyalty by righting the ship in Spain or if this will go down as a wrong decision.
