Group F: Google’s Fallible Prediction

By: WC Bob | April 17th, 2006 | 5 Comments »

Crystal BallOver the course of the past few months, World Cup Blog has offered its infallible predictions for each of the World Cup groups. We are so confident of the infallibility of our selections that we are willing to match wits with the smartest kids on the block: Google. Google Fight is a site that allows you to enter any two terms and the Google gurus tell you who would win in a fight. Today we played out this battle with the Group F to see how our predictions compare to Google’s. Will World Cup Blog reign supreme in this clash of Internet titans?

Australia vs. Japan, June 12, Kaiserslautern
Google Winner: Japan
WCB Winner: Tie

Brazil vs. Croatia, June 13, Berlin
Google Winner: Brazil
WCB Winner: Brazil

Brazil vs. Australia, June 18, Munich
Google Winner: Australia
WCB Winner: Brazil

Japan vs. Croatia, June 18, Nuremburg
Google Winner: Japan
WCB Winner: Croatia

Brazil vs. Japan, June 22, Dortmund
Google Winner: Japan
WCB Winner: Brazil

Australia vs. Croatia
, June 22, Stuttgart
Google Winner: Australia
WCB Winner: Croatia

Group Winner
Google: Japan 9pts
WCB: Brazil 9pts

Group Runner-Up
Google: Australia 6pts
WCB: Croatia 6pts

Conclusion: The smarty pants cats at Google are delusional if they think Australia and Japan are the two teams coming out of this group. We’re so confident that it will be Brazil and Croatia that we are willing to make a winner-takes-all bet. If we are right, we’ll take over control of Google. If Google is right, they get to own World Cup Blog. Yes, this is a huge risk, but we’re gonna win.

Group A: Google vs. WCB

Group B: Google vs. WCB

Group C: Google vs. WCB

Group D: Google vs. WCB

Group E: Google vs. WCB

I think google should stick to making search engines and not Prediction’s of world cup matchs. Think they would go broke quite quickly.

Luis…I agree that Croatia will be going throug their group but perhaps you did not read the pshychic’s prediction.

We are slated to loose against Brazil and win the other two matches. You can’t argue with exact science.

The short version:
Brazil – 1st
Croatia – 2nd

No Cahill, no Australia. Really, Kewell and Viduka are important, but Cahill runs things.

Japan’s got skilled players to go through midfield, but not only do they have to get through Croatia’s midfield, they also have to get through the backline. And Japan doesn’t have the firepower necessary to do it.

Croatia are lucky enough to have Brazil the first match out of the gate. After dropping to Brazil, they’ll be able to put full concentration toward advancing, while Japan will be staring down the schedule to Brazil on June 22.

Also, Croatia will do an Italy -keep a clean sheet defensively, and put one in the back of the net against Australia and Japan.
