Janas’ Head Hurts after Poles lose to Lithuania

By: WC Bob | May 2nd, 2006 | 4 Comments »

It might have been a meaningless exhibition match and he might not have had many of his first team players, but that didn’t make Poland coach Pawel Janas feel any better after his team lost 1-0 to Lithuania today in Belchatow. “This confirmed my worst fears,” said Janas. “We can see that the majority are out of form and after this game I’m just left with headaches. In the form we saw today, we have no chance of getting out of the group at the finals.”

Andrius Gedgaudas took advantage of an inexperienced Poland backline to beat keeper Jerzy Dudek with the game’s only goal in the 14th minute.

Poland’s defense has always been the big question mark to me. Even with its starting back four in place and even with a cadre of quality keepers, I still think the team is susceptible to soft goals. I think Janas is probably overreacting to this loss, but I also think he is right to have some concerns.

I bet some coaches’ heads are feeling better right about now….Costa Rica, Ecuador and Germany come to mind.

who was controlling the game more??..well i agree with this article… he shouldnt stress too much over this but there is something that has to be done about that defense..i feel that janas will do something about it…i know we can score against capable teams like england..we just cant allow them to score on us

This is the best thing that could have ever happened to Poland.

1. They won’t get cocky because they got beat by a POS team.

2. The other teams in the group will get overconfident because they think that Poland sucks all of a sudden.

Plus, Poland has to kick Dudek out of the program. He blows and hasn’t had a pro game in close to a year.

Boruc has to start with Kusczak as the backup.

With Zurawski, Frankowski and Smolarek up top we will have no problems scoring 3 or 4 goals a game. Even if we let in 2 or 3, we still win.
