World Cup Balls of Concrete

By: WC Bob | July 5th, 2006 | 8 Comments »

Berlin police are on the lookout for the person or people responsible for leaving footballs filled with concrete around the city. The balls are chained to fences and the prank includes signs that read, “Can you kick it?” This has led to some innocent folks trying to show their football skills only to limp away with Wayne Rooney pre-World Cup metatarsal maladies. “We think they could have been left by someone who is sick of the World Cup and are investigating the matter as the balls seem to be deliberately designed to injure,” said a police spokesperson. The chief suspect is someone who’s brain is filled with the same substance as the balls.

This is funny, but is not new.

I have done it myself as a kid, placing on the sidewalk empty boxes with big stones in it.

People would just kick the boxes. It’s been very funny to watch, :)

The idea may not be new, but the story seems to be.

I think it’d be even funnier if the sign used a bit of reverse-psychology and read as “ACHTUNG: Please do NOT kick this ball!”

Knowing crowds, and more importantly, drunk Germans, I bet that would have caused a bigger meta-tarsal-breakage epidemic.
