Top 50 All Time Goals

By now you have had more than 24 hours without watching a match. If you are like me, your head hurts from withdraw and you are ready to head down to your local park to watch 8-year-olds kick it around just so you can get your footie fix. If you have 22 minutes to spare or even part of that amount of time, below is a video that features 50 of the all-time greatest goals. It should help you pass the time as we slog forward with another World Cup-free day.

  • pwnawannab

Beautiful goals, poor music selection ;)
    MMMMMMMM Friday!!!

  • Kevin K

The divers of today could learn a thing or two from Ronaldo and Maradona. Stay on your feet, beat your men, and score that goal.

Instead, today we get a bunch of players with so little faith in themselves they fall at the slightest pretext.

  • Mahdi

Beautiful goals, but they were ranked wrong in my view. I’m suprised Dennis Bergkamp’s volley was in the low forties.

  • Claude

The title was a little bogus. Pele scored over 1200 goals and yet not a single one of his made it into the top 50. That’s incredible. The second most successful nation in the history of the world cup, Germany, didn’t have a player making the list. Looked to me that most of the goals dated to this decade and to the 1990s. There wasn’t a single goal from the 30s, 40s, 50s and I’m not sure about the 60s or 70s. Great goals but definitely biased toward Brazil (even though Pele was left out).

  • Gustavo

EXCELLENT!! thank you Bob!! thank you!

  • Kevin K

Claude, of course the goals can only be selected from those that were recorded on camera.

  • Claude

Hey Kevin – Edison invented the movie camera over a hundred years ago. Talking movies have been around since 1927. I think that certainly falls into the range I was talking about. Don’t forget when our parents or perhaps grandparents or great grand parents went to the movies they were shown Newsreels. I know we had them in the 1950s in Germany and also here in the USA.

  • Kevin K

Okay, Claude. Find the footages of all goals that have been scored on camera. All of them. And compile them into a top 50 list. Your effort will be appreciated if you do.

For now, I’ll enjoy this selection of pretty good goals.

  • Kelvin

My favourites- Seedorf rocket, Beckham half way goal, Zidane volley, and of course the greatest goal by Maradona.

    Thanks for the video.

  • Ali Siddiqui

I can’t help but red a rush seeing those bicycle kicks resulting in a goal…or pure talent!! Thank you so much WCBlog you don’t know how much it meant to me to have seen this. :)

  • Abhishek

Amazing collection!!Some of the most beautiful goals of the history of the game…My fav: Ibrahimovich,Seedorf,Maradona of course…
    I wonder..There’s no Pele??

  • Gavin

Thanks! It’s a bit slow on my connection though. Any chance of a download instead of a stream?

  • Ken

Unbelievable. This is probably the most amazed and entertained I have ever been. Just unreal.

Thankyou so much for this link.

  • mark

Great video. Although, the choice in music is not that great. Haha mute button!

  • Sam

Great goals! I particularly loved Beckham’s goal shot from his side of the half-way line — what was that goalkeeper doing?? Also, of course, all the bicycle kicks. I wonder how many bicycle kicks connect compard to how many are thrown? Australia tried one in the Italy game, but it got nowhere.

I’m very surprised at there being no Pele goals. Also, I think Maradona’s “Hand of God” goal should have been there. I mean, how many other goals have well-known titles?

  • Robert

A million thanks for whoever put this together! Some outstanding, excellent footage, but you left out Edmilson’s spinning bicycle kick vs. Costa Rica in the 2002 World Cup :-0

  • Greg

All are great goals but one
    No.1
What is so special on this goal
in fact the defender gave it!!!

  • Stevie C

Some spectacular goals there. However, I can’t help but think the order is somewhat distorted. Anyone remember Archie Gemmel’s goal against Holland in the 1978 World Cup in Argentina? Just when Scotland were playing crap and finally needed to beat Holland by 2 clear goals though alas they only beat Holland 3-2!

  • alwin

    hi nice goals

  • Justin

Claude, just because cameras were around in the 20s, 30s, and 40s doesn’t mean matches were regularly filmed – or that we still have the film from those that were. In fact it was a rarity for league matches around the world until the 60s, and not much of even that footage remains today. There’s not even very good footage available from World Cups prior to 1966.

I know. I worked on a project in honor of Highbury’s last season, and we had a hell of a time getting footage from prior to about 1964.

  • godfrey

i think it was very well put together and displayed many of the greatest goals.
As to those of you’ll who wonder why pele’s goals are not featured…well they just pale in comparison to those I’ve seen here.
What I can’t stand is seeing videos or lists feeling obligated to include pele, beckenbauer or cryuff’s goals to appease the general public.
Would like to have seen some of charlie george or mark hughes volleys though….

  • jack

wheres joe cole and his 1 in a life time goal for england at the world cup or gerrards unbelieveable goal in fa cup final?

  • hady khalify

that was astonishing but roberto carlos’s free kick goal is the best one and i mean it!!thanks and good luck!!

  • Tim

good movie but the goals had been arranged in the way that most ppl would disagree with. Seeing how theres no Pele and German soccer players, the movie was a somewhat bust. The movie had been very biased towards players from the Uk and Brazil(not including Pele) and had some goals that were supposed to be at the bottom of the list. however, it did show talent from the many famous soccer players which you should have rephrased to “50 Great Soccer Plays”.

  • Bracey

Gerrard v Boro half volley curling shot…… B. Charlton scored some stormers too back in the old days. I agree with Hughes too some of his bicycle kicks were stunning. Great video tho :) Thanks

  • Kevin C

One can have a few issues, here and there, with the ranking and with some goals and players that should have been included, but overall it is a superb collection, one of the best, if not the best, available online. Congrats and many thanks.
Ps. Messi’s masterpiece against Getafe (18/4/07) belongs now in the top five as does one of Argentina’s six goals against Serbia in Germany 2006 (the one in which virtually the whole team touches the ball).

  • zack

  • fly away

amazing goals and some nice songs as well :D

  • Gerard

Really enjoyed your compilation. Agree on nr 1, would personally put nr 19 (Negrete) and 13 (Bergkamp) higher up (artistic value), but that’s just my opinion. Wondering if you ever saw this goal by Paul Bosvelt (Feyenoord, Manchester City, Heerenveen:

    Thanks again,

    Gerard.
