Sepp Blatter has a Bulls Eye on his Back

By: WC Bob | October 16th, 2006 | 2 Comments »

A leading football administrator says that the six confederations are set to restructure the way FIFA is run so that the confederations have more power to oversee the sport in their regions. He said: “The confederations will propose that FIFA is run by an executive purely made up from the six confederations which will be left to run the game in their own areas as they see fit. It is time for the confederations to have more say in how they run the game in their own regions.”

Representatives from the six confederations are scheduled to meet to draw up proposed changes ahead of December’s FIFA executive committee meeting.

I’d love to be a fly on the wall when they explain to Sepp Blatter that they want to take power and authority away from him. The image of a three-year-old having a tantrum comes to mind.

I have no idea if this move will aid the sport or not. After all, bozos like Jack Warner run the confederations. But this does seem to make a bit of sense:

“FIFA will still be in charge of the game at international level, such as running the World Cup, and so the revenue from that will still be divided evenly,” the official said.

“But each confederation is different and needs to be treated as such. It cannot be just one size fits all.”

This is a great plan. Have FIFA run by a board of representatives from each football federation as opposed to one greedy dictator.

I don’t know how this will work out either. Both FIFA and the Olympic Committee are a bunch of crooked and greedy international banana republics. Sepp Blatter clawed his way to the top of the FIFA dung heep by learning from his predecesor. Sepp’s replacement will have been his understudy. The same applies to the confederations. Let’s face it money and power corrupts. Blatter will serve as FIFA president until he decides to retire or God pulls the plug. He will dole out the goodies to make sure he stays on top. He got to be president of FIFA by promising the African Confederation the world cup in 2006. Unfortunately he didn’t reckon on Oceania throwing their support to Germany. However, 4 years later Sepp delivered on his promise and the African Confederation is contended. He will throw around a few million Swiss francs here and there to built up soccer somewhere. The recipients of Sepp’s largess will then show their appreciation by wrapping their lips around Sepp’s butt. The Olympic Committe works on that same principle. Some of us have the guts to call Sepp’s largess what it really is “A Bribe” or pay-off if you will. At the end of the day the confederations will be thrown a bone or two and they will go off thinking they had a victory, but Sepp and the boys will still be in charge and lining their pockets and having the soccer world bow down and kiss their feet or maybe an area somewhat higher on the backside of the human body.
