Save of the Day

By: WC Bob | June 22nd, 2006 | 3 Comments »

We’ve seen some great goalkeeping this World Cup but none of the keepers has made a save quite like the one made by a fan in Portugal. Orlando Fonseca was watching Portugal play Iran on Saturday when he heard some commotion coming from the third-floor apartment upstairs. He leaned out the window to tell his neighbors to shut up only to have a woman from the apartment fall into his arms.

Explains Fonseca: “I leant out of the bedroom window and there was a gang of people watching her in the window. She was dancing away on the window sill. Next the glass smashed and she fell. I caught her with my arm and pulled her in. She was not heavy but you can see a big bruise on my arm. She is a crazy, crazy woman. She said ’sorry’ to me but was still smiling.”

Fonseca has not been contacted by the Portugal team to tryout for keeper for 2010, but undoubtedly somebody from Chelsea spotted his save and is trying to sign him to a long-term contract.

i would think that grabbing a fallen woman out of the air would be pretty challenging, no matter her size.

hahaah..maybe this is a strange Portuguese sport or something.

I’m not making this up. My brother, as a little kid, once slipped through the railing of our building’s circular staircase and fell 3 floors only to be caught by a fellow tenant that heard the commotion and just put his laundry bastket out to catch what he thought was somebody elses clothes. My brother landed dead center in the basket and lived to hear about it.
