North Korean Girls Gone Wild

By: Daryl | July 28th, 2006 | 5 Comments »

The Women’s Asian Cup Semi Final between China and North Korea is already infamous. North Korea lost 1-0, and protested a little too much after having a late goal disallowed for off-side. Keep an eye on goalkeeper Han Hye-yong (in blue) who chases the referee to give her a kick after being sent off. The North Korean players then start a water bottle fight with the crowd.

In fairness to Han Hye-yong, referees will often rescind a red card if you kick them hard enough.

Wow. (I couldn’t really tell from the video, but it didn’t look like the North Korean gal was offside… maybe because the camera didn’t zoom in soon enough)

Assuming the off-side call is against the player who receives the flick-on, she’s almost definitely on-side.

Yeah it seemed to be onside to me as well. So 3 for 3, its obviously a wrong call. That being said, suck it up, not much can be done once a referee’s mind has been made up.

I mean Ive never understood the intelligence of soccer players. Has a player EVER changed a referee’s decision? No… so why have so many of them been suspended for trying it? Does anyoe understand?
