Madrid Raid Juve

The Juve sale has started, with World Cup winning captain Fabio Cannavaro and Brazilian defensive midfielder Emerson joining Real Madrid for a very reasonable 20 million euros. They’ll be reunited with their former Juventus boss Fabio Cappello, who jumped ship to Madrid a few weeks back.

Cannavaro is the closest thing to a ‘galactico’ centre back right now, and while Emerson won’t sell as many shirts as Ronaldo or Beckham, he’ll make a lot more tackles. With Madrid finally making some smart defensive purchases, 2006/7 should see them challenge Barcelona again in La Liga.

I’m getting a little bit tired of Real Madrid buying players left and right. A few years ago this practice caused them to be in such a financial mess that they had to sell their practice field. That is the problem with many sports that the rich clubs have the cash to buy all the good players and leaves the smaller clubs with nothing. I guess Chelsea isn’t going to be far behind. When Real bought all those players like Figo, Ronaldo, Beckham etc. they still couldn’t win the Spanish League the last few years and bounced out of the Champions League too. Let’s hope they relive that failure this coming season. Wonder what happens to these contracts if the Italiens decide to leave Juve up in the top division after the dust settles with the appeals?

Real Madrid wouldn’t buy Cannavaro and Emerson if they weren’t needed. Players of this calibre are purchased to sit on the bench. And I am sure both players would rather play for Real Madrid, than a depleted Juventus in Serie B. Good luck to them, a footballer’s career is short term.

On a completely superficial note, can’t we have a better picture of Canna? I know there is a general policy on this site about finding the most unflattering pictures possible of good looking players, but come on, give a girl a break.

Oh, and good luck in Madrid, Fabio!

Aww, thank you, Daryl. That was so sweet!

I knew I came to here to do something other than roll my eyes at people complaining that Italy didn’t deserve to win!

What is the message, Daryl, at “this gallery” where there is a naked Cannavaro next to a “Are you Gay.Com ….Join Us” advertisment?

Hey, Italy deserved more than any other team to win the WC becoz they displayed a far more convincing game than France, Argentina, Germany and even the defending champs! they were very solid and consistant at the back with top class performance except for the own goal vs team USA :-p the Golden Ball should’ve been Canavarro’s!
