Lost in Translation

By: WC Bob | June 21st, 2006 | No Comments »

We’ve all had it happen. You’re in a different city and you park your car on a street with which you aren’t familiar. You don’t want to lose your car so you write down the street name. That is exactly what a pair of World Cup fans from England did while visiting Cologne before their country’s match against Sweden. There was only one problem.

The street name they wrote down was “Einbahn Strasse”. After searching for the car the couple soon realized that every other street in Cologne has an Einbahn Strasse sign. The couple grew very confused and it was only when a German policeman explained that Einbahn Strasse means “one-way street” in German that the couple realized they weren’t crazy.

After a few hours and with the help of the German police, they were able to find their car just in time to get out of the city before the police started arresting the hoolies who prefer to hang out on Dead-End Strasse.
