Hand of God Video Game Re-Creation
It was twenty years ago today the Maradona scored the famous (or infamous, depending on your point of view) Hand of God goal against England. If that doesn’t make you feel old, I’m not sure what will. You’ve probably seen the goal a million times already, but you probably have never seen it quite like this. Our pal over on the Wade Blogs site has recreated the goal as well as the Goal of the Century using an old Nintendo game and linking up the audio from the match.

Should have put the original call from Uruguayan announcer Victor Huho Morales, who started crying and reciting improv poetry while yelling “Goooool Argentino!!!” after Maradona scored the second. Precious moment.

I remember following the ‘86 Cup on the Spanish language media. At the time I lived in LA, and as with the final, was at the beach in Santa Monica listening on the radio. It was really cool sitting around with a bunch of Mexican Americans that gathered to listen, since they were kind enough to translate some of the play-by-play for me. I got alot of good-natured grief that day for backing England.

I remember that Spanish commentator. As Maradona came near the end his mazy run, all Morales did was scream ‘Genius, Genius, Genius’.. followed by one of the longest ‘GOOOAL’ shouts in history.
