FIFA: The Ball is in Brazil’s Court for World Cup 2014
Without saying that Brazil has been officially awarded the World Cup in 2014, His Seppness effectively said today that the South American country is going to get the tournament if it can get busy building some stadiums. “The ball is Brazil’s court and we can say that the demands are very great,” FIFA President Sepp Blatter said after meeting Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva in Brasilia.
Blatter echoed the Brazilian government’s sentiments that the country will need to build 10-12 new stadiums to host the world’s largest party. Colombia and Mexico have also been muttering that they’ll take the gig if Brazil can’t pull it together. Blatter said the final decision will be made late next year or in early 2008, which should give all of the other candidates plenty of time to try to bribe FIFA.
