Evil Spirits Chased from World Cup Stadiums

By: WC Bob | April 24th, 2006 | 8 Comments »

All of the fans and players who are going to the World Cup can go to sleep a bit easier tonight now that there is an assurance that there won’t be any evil spirits in Germany this summer. A 36-year-old shayman from Ecuador is visiting all 12 venues to banish evil spirits before the tournament begins. Said Tzamarenda Naychapi, who was in Leipzig Monday to perform this critical task: “I’ve come to Leipzig to purify this important place for the World Cup and to bring positive energy. The World Cup will bring many people together…it is about people coming together and meeting each other.” Hopefully this magic works to keep those pesky chainsaw carrying hooligans far, far away.

Makes sense to me. After all, German doctors were treating some of the Ecuadorian players recently, so why not reciprocate with some of Ecuador’s witch doctors. It’s cultural exchanges like this that make the World Cup so…enriching. You can check out Tzamarenda at http://terresacree.org/images/Eluniverso.jpg

Trent - Thanks for finding that picture. There are surprisingly few quality photos of shayman from Ecuador floating around the web. A shame, really, because they are super cool dudes.

My own ritual is to crumple up a communion wafer in a glass of wine and then say three hail marys.

The devil just dissapears.

I remember back in 1998 a Brazilian shayman told that the France World Cup finals would be between Brazil and Paraguay…

Damn you Laurent Blanc for destroyed the predictions of our ancient indians…

I think that Shayman had too many pipe smokes…. :-)
