Dunga Is New Brazil Boss

By: Daryl | July 24th, 2006 | 26 Comments »

Brazil have taken a gamble and named former captain Dunga as the new head coach. The 42 year old has the same amount of managerial experience as me or you (unless you actually have some).

Dunga was an uncompromising midfielder who captained the Seleção to a 1994 World Cup win, and to the runner up spot in 1998. Despite his lack of experience he can expect to command the players respect. Tough-tackling was not how anyone described Brazil’s performance against France, but we can expect Dunga to remake the team in his image.

“I want to bring the same determination I had as a player,” Dunga told the CBF’s Web site. “Motivation and will to win are fundamental for anyone who wants to wear the shirt of the Brazilian national team.”

Dunga has a big job, and some big choices ahead of him. Will he keep faith with Ronaldo and Adriano? Who will replace Roberto Carlos? Will Cafu be ushered out against his will? We’ll know more after Dunga’s first game in charge, a friendly away to Norway on August 16th.

Thank God. The only credible choice after what
we have just seen. I hope the first thing he does is name Lucio captain.

Well in my point of view, I think it could be the smartest decision from CBF as Dunga’s more inclined into this Generation’s tactics of play and players will quickly adapt into his leadership and he will understand the players as he played with some of them!!
But also if positive results dont come as we the BRAZILIAN fans and MEDIA expect them to, then of coarse CBF would have to explain why they appointed an inexperienced coach!!!
You know i would’ve blushed a bit if CBF would have @ least joked to Zico to take the BRASIL job as a manager!!!
What do you guys think??

Dunga, huh? He was one of my all-time favs as a player, never took any crap from anyone so he might be what the doctor ordered for a team full of egos. The Auriverdes certainly needed some discipline this past World Cup. The lack of experience on the hot seat in the biggest job in soccer concerns me, though. Let’s give him a chance though.

Well, one more since there is some sign of life (as there should always be when the Seleção is mentioned!), and that is my much-belated All- World Cup team from Germany. This is who I saw as the most deserving 11. Don’t ask me for a whole roster; it took nearly three weeks to analyze everything just to get this:

Klose Henry

Zidane Riquelme Appiah Gattuso

Grosso Thuram Cannavaro Lahm

Buffon

Note: Finding a forward to go with Klose wasn’t easy, but Henry factored even when he didn’t have the ball.

I think Dunga will do a very good job. It will take some time but he will do a great job. the most important thing is that he takes no shit from no Ronaldo no Adriano no body…and that’s what Brazil needs right now. I think he will start with young fresh ” Non- money, fame poisoned” players. But most importantly, whatever he does, I hope he brings the samba back to the game. just like in 70 and 82.

lets just hope…

All you have to do is watch the Brasil – Denmark tape from ‘98 to realize that Dunga is just as qualified as anyone outside of Scolari to coach the team. I give Zagallo credit for the planning on the first goal. Dunga’s tactical brillance in dispossessing a vulnerable midfielder abandoned in his own end produced the second. And you can readily see Dunga positioning Rivaldo before feeding him at the top of the box for the third. More importantly, note that both Denmark goals came from the kind of inexcusable crap – a quick start goal and a gift goal resulting from R. Carlos’s fanning on an attempt to bicycle a ball out of his own box – that Dunga by nature just will not tolerate. That game would have been at least 2-0 Brasil with Dunga as the coach and likely 2-1 Denmark without Dunga
on the field directing the team. And, I don’t
think France gets away with playing a cross
to an unmarked Henry’s feet at the far post if
Dunga is coaching the team. Dunga’s
leadership as a player was probably most apparent in the number of free kicks he
foiled by charging combination attempts
and taking balls point blank off his body.

Well, you never know guys.

Give the man a chance. After all, he’s brave enough to take on that hot seat.

I somehow doubt Zico wants it. Too hot a seat ….

Like mark said I think Dunga will also have to control the egos of some Brazilian players. I’d say kinda adapt Lippi’s strategy of telling the players that nobody is guaranteed a spot.

well so far so good!! 3-0 and the argentinians are licking their wounds…..brazil’s new team is interesting and to see dunga put kaka on the bench and insisting that even ronaldinho has to fight for his spot on the team is remarkable. I also read that he will not call ronaldo again which is fine…..the new team members so far are showing the brazil that we all missed at the world cup…..

Dunga? Bad coach for Brazil…He is leaving out the all time favorites (Adriano,Ronaldo,Ronaldinho) out in the bench and even out of the Brazil squad….I wanna see them play…… not these unknown youth players hes putting on the field….very bad and disapointing squad…hope hes not putting that squad in the 2007 COPA AMERICA OH YES I CANT WAIT JUNE 26 2007 HELLYEAH!!!!!!
