Court: Luis Aragones is not a Racist
A court in Madrid has decided that Spain manager Luis Aragones’ remarks a couple years ago about Arsenal striker Thierry Henry and Britain’s colonial past weren’t racist. You’ll recall that Aragones was fined by the Spanish Committee for Sporting Discipline (SCDD) for calling Henry a “Black Shit” in remarks captured by video cameras. The court backed Aragones’ appeal and revoked the SCDD’s decision that his behavior could have fostered “violent, racist or xenophic acts.”
Aragones might have won in the courtroom but in the court of public opinion he still has a long ways to go. His team faces England today in a friendly.
In completely unrelated news, the spam filter we have been testing out on the Argentina World Cup Blog appears to be working so plans are in the works to get it installed across all the blogs and to get this site back up to 100% in the coming weeks. More about that to come when the comments are turned back on. Thanks for your patience and for continuing to visit the site.

If a US politician were to utter those words his political carrer would be over in seconds. Also a sports commentator would be finished too. Recall Howard Cossel saying “look at that monkey go” or words to that effect on a Monday night game and it is well known that Cossel may have had a big ego to match his mouth but a racist he wasn’t.
