Colombia Bids for 2014 World Cup

Fresh on the heels of Brazil’s bid to host the World Cup in 2014, Colombia has offered up its own bid to FIFA to host the big enchilada. You’ll recall that Colombia was granted the right to host the competition back in 1986, but the tournament was moved to Mexico because the Colombian government couldn’t come up with the necessary dough to upgrade the country’s stadiums.

Brazil still is widely considered to be the favorite to host the party in 2014 with even Colombia national federation president Luis Bedoya describing his country’s chances as “minimal.”

I’d have to agree that Colombia’s chances of hosting things in 2014 are about as likely as Carlos Valderrama winning a beauty contest, but we won’t know for sure until the winner is announced in November 2007.
