Benelux to Bid on 2018 World Cup

You have to give the Benelux countries some credit for being organized. While none of us probably has anything written on our calendars for 2018, Belgium, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands have already penciled “host the World Cup” on theirs.

The three countries are expected to announce that they are formally applying to host the 2018 tournament in January, a full three years ahead of the deadline for applications. The big winner from all this could be Luxembourg. Can you imagine if they allow all three hosts countries’ teams an automatic spot in the tournament? Luxembourg would be psyched.

Australia, England, Mexico and Spain have all expressed an interest in staging the 2018 World Cup, although Australia is only saying that so they can host the big prize in 2022.

it would be awesome to see theWorld Cup in the Benelux, especially seen the strong history there of the game. How about the finals in Amsterdam?
The Netherlands deserve this; they have contributed so much to the game over the years, think Ajax, Cruyff, Feyenoord, and the 1974/78 national squad in the World Cup, as well as the 1988 team with Van Basten in the European Cup.
