Beckenbauer’s Lame Excuse for Missing Friday’s Matches

By: WC Bob | June 25th, 2006 | 7 Comments »

It has become an all too familiar sight. Right before kickoff the television cameras are pointed towards the stands and there is Franz Beckenbauer sitting like the football king he is in Germany. Which is why it was so noticeable on Friday when we sat through four games with nary a Beckbenbauer sighting. Turns out he was busy that day. Busy getting married.

We can forgive Franz for wanting to miss the Tunisia-Ukraine match, but how could he choose a wedding ceremony over Switzerland against South Korea? France against Togo was also a tastier treat than any old boring wedding cake.

Granted he is marrying someone who is 21 years his junior and he figured the World Cup would be a good time to get married without the World Cup Blog paparazzi following his every move, but couldn’t he have waited just a few weeks longer?

The good news is the Franz has no intention of sitting on a beach in Hawaii for his honeymoon. On Saturday he was back on our television screens, taking in the Argentina and Mexico match in Leipzig as the lucky bastard continures to try to fufill his promise of attending 48 of the 64 World Cup matches.

Trying to get some press after he bashed Klinsi? I find it distasteful that he got married during the cup, even if it’s his 10th time of getting married.

Beckenbauer is full of bratwurst, he is not God, and who cares if he got married, I’m watching the games, not a past german kraut hero, and yes i’m a kraut too.

Well, my girlfriend is almost 20 years exactly younger than me, and I don’t have to rely Beckenbauer’s superficiality and money to keep her.:) The Kaiser has always struck me the wrong way somehow. Gerd was the hero of that team, not him, and as a coach, he was nothing special.
