Abramovich Shells out the Big Bucks for Russia

By: WC Bob | December 13th, 2006 | No Comments »

We’ve seen what his money has done for Chelsea in the English Premier League and now we’ll have a chance to see what it can do on the international level. Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich is set to invest $40 million to boost his country’s national football team. When you have a net worth of $18 billion throwing another $40 million at a football team is probably about the same as buying a cup of coffee at Starbucks for most of us. It is only a bit more than what he paid for Andriy Shevchenko. Maybe he should just give Sheva to Russia and call it even?

In any case, it will be interesting to see if money can buy happiness and if it will pay dividends for future generations of Russian players.
