THE BIG PICTURE
Spain showed up and taught everyone a little something about scoring goals with a 4-0 win against the Ukraine, but we still have out doubts. Did Ukraine’s defenders just make Torres look fast or can he accelerate away from people with the ball at his feet? Can David Villa put in two goals against a better team? We probably won’t get definitive answers to these questions until after Spain is out of their group, but they’ve shown potential that make them the favorites until they’re deep into the tournament. Today they take on a Tunisia team that is coming off a disappointing tie against Saudi Arabia. With the hope of advancing still alive and well, the Carthage Eagles hope to pick up three points at the expense of Spain.

¡A por ellos, Oé!

So far I’ve had Cadena Ser tuned in for about 6 minutes and they’ve two fan renditions of that song, one that was fatal and the second that was pretty decent.

Spain’s gotta feel pretty good now. Of course there’s a limit to the comparative scores game, but when you’re four goals better than the team that’s four goals better than the team that drew with today’s opponent, you’ve gotta feel confident.

(Digression: Why oh why couldn’t the US get a group like this?)

Biggest problem for Spain is probably maintaining focus and giving just enough to win comfortably without peaking in the group stages.
