THE BIG PICTURE
Ivory Coast lost 2-1 to Argentina in its World Cup debut but came away from the game with a lot of respect from their opponents and fans around the world. The Elephants played an up tempo game and a late goal by Didier Drogba made things tight at the end. Today they need to get a result against the Netherlands if they hope to stay alive. The Dutch come into the game tied with Argentina at the top of the Group C table after grinding out a 1-0 win against Serbia and Montenegro.

Ivory Coast

76% of the population are considered Ivorians. They belong to different peoples, which linguistically are summarized under the language groups of Kwa, Kru, Mande, and Gur.

Ivory Coast is translated into many languages including: Elfenbeinküste in German, Costa de Marfil in Spanish, Pantai Gading in Indonesian, Ivoorkust in Dutch, Wybrzeże Kości Słoniowej in Polish. In October 1985 the government requested that the country be known as Côte d’Ivoire in every language but that hasn’t really worked so well.

Defender Cyrille Domoraud is the oldest player on the World Cup roster at the tender age of 34.

Wide Eyes Satisfied!

We grabbed the first lead on the 23th minute with Van Nistlerooy burying it in front of me with my eyes wide open magnifying the moment a gazillion times. Oh it was beautiful, a feeling I can’t explain. Four minutes after my eyes saw another go…
