Brazil played the worse game I`ve ever seen their world cup side play!They didn`t do squat against France! My only regret is that Italy could have been the team to send the Brazilians packing!By the way, Italy were screwed in 2002 in the Croatia game in round 1, and then royally screwed against South Korea in the second round of 2002.So, they owed us one!Oh well, these things have a way of evening out over the long term.For my fellow USA FANS:GET OVER IT! The US couldn`t beat anyone!Sheez, ya think they could have beaten Ghana after Italy beat the Czechs!!!!So, there is no excuse for us! I root for USA and Italy(since Ive been following the Italian team since 1970). The purpose of round 1 is to survive it!Its not to peak too early. Look at how bad France was in round 1! They were the luckiest of all to advance,but thats all they had to do. Now they are getting stronger with every match.Italy is doing the same. The big difference is that France is a much older team and their players have been playing on Adrenaline. I believe Portugal will kick their butts!

Germany will find Italy their toughest oppenents so far, and I doubt very much if Italy loses. Germany does not seem to have the power up front to threaten Italy’s defence, whereas Italy has a far more formidable and creative midfield, quicker on the breakaways and will create more opportunity for goals. Germany tends to play unimaginative football and will be tested to the limit by Italy. Italy to win a tough game only because Germany is so dogged, but class and flair will win the day for Italy.

All those who criticize Italy so harshly apparently know nothing about football… they see Brazil play a stale game and they still insist on calling it “samba”, they see Italy get to the semis by scoring 9 goals (only 2 less than the amazing Germany!) and still call it “catenaccio”… nice rigurgitating of old cliches’!

If you knew anything about WC you should know that it is important to peak around the semifinals, when it really matters and that is exactly what Italy and France are doing. Germany, however, had to peak from game one to quiet the criticism that was surrounding the team and with Klinsmann risking his job. Scoring 4 goals in the opening game against Costarica means absolutely nothing today folks, it was just a moral-boosting factor back then, just like it meant nothing for Argentina to win 6-0 against Serbia and then struggle against Mexico and Germany and end up eliminated. Germany played very poorly against Argentina and they should not be too cocky. Going through by penalties after such a poor showing is nothing to brag about. But I guess the Germans know that since they need to rely on the “home advantage” factor and the shameful press lynching of Italians to feel they have a chance. By the way, if Frings punched, he must go out; those are the FIFA rules and, sorry, they do apply to the host country too.

Finally, regarding diving, cheating and hairstyles, and all that, I would point out Ballak’s numerous “enhancements” of light fouls against him with lame theatrics, Ronaldo’s numerous dives against France or Shevchenko’s shameful dive against Tunisia (penalty and qualification thank you!). Don’t throw stones if you live in the glass-house… stop bitching and look in your own backyard, fools.

Besides, you call it a dive against Australia when you see the slo-motion, frame-by-frame replay… well, life does not happen in slow motion my friends, it happens pretty damn quickly when you are running towards the goalmouth. There was definite contact so it was a definite penalty in my opinion. When Italy was robbed of three valid goals against Korea (including a golden goal!)the Italy-haters still had nasty things to say about the Azzurri. Well, today we know how strong Korea really is. If Italy was awarded a shaky penalty against the Suckeroos I say get over it and stop whining. Apparently you didn’t see the 7 clear shots at goal Italy had in the first half and the totally bogus red card given to Materazzi. So the right teams are in the right places today, Italy in the semifinals and the Aussies back down-under.

Finally, you guys could use a decent hair-style… mullets have been out since the seventies. Do everyone a favor, call Totti’s stylist!

The home advantage for Germans will be huge, with all the fans baying for Italian blood. But the scheming Italians can be equally provoked into winning. This is going to be fun. These are the games that you wait 4 years to see. I think it will either be one of the great games of all time with the over-acheiving hosts pulling their game together and the Italians finally able to avoid an overtime game to this point so they do not have to lose on penalties…Or it will devolve into one of the most boring defensive battles ever.

Either way I am looking forward to this game very much and either of these 2 against the resurgent French would make a great final. I wouldn’t even mind seeing the head butting Portuguese in the final.

If it goes down to penalties Germany will win (I almost see this being the most likely scenario…as Germany knows they’ll have a hard time of it beating the Italian defence…I think they’ll play defensively for the penalty shoot out…Here they are freaks… I’d back Germany against any team if it came down to penalties…. So basically I think if Italy are to win they’ll have to go all out and go after the win…

Also Italy is disadvantaged with regard to its preparation. That is, Italy has “softer” teams in Australia and Ukraine than Germany’s opponents Sweden and Argentina (mind you Sweden looked like one of the worst teams in the finals)

Go Italy. Italy was going to win and they did. They controlled the first half but they let up a little bit on the second and when over time hit they domonated. They were the first team to beat Germany in that stadium. Being an italy fan i am happy with their proformence. but after playing for 8 years and only being 11 i have learned you need to presure. they presured well but they could have done better. i am happy because they won and i am even happyer that they beat Germany in their home stadium.
