THE BIG PICTURE
This could be the game of the quarter-finals with two traditional powerhouses in great form squaring off. Germany enters the match riding a wave of confidence. The German team has displayed an offensive minded style of football that has led to four straight victories. The home crowd will be on their side when they take on an Argentina team that has played some of the best football of the tournament. Argentina was fully tested against Mexico in the round of 16, but displayed the will of a champion. It doesn’t get much better than this. Germany against Argentina in Berlin. I bet you give the game a look.

Argentina

Argentina striker Hernan Crespo has scored in the last four World Cup matches he has played.

West Germany and Argentina met in the 1986 and 1990 finals. Argentina won the first 3-2 in Mexico. Germany gained revenge with a 1-0 win in Italy four years later.

Germany

Germany striker Klose is one goal away from becoming the 12th player in the tournament’s history to net a total of 10 at World Cup finals. Gerd Muller (14), Juergen Klinsmann (11) and Helmut Rahn (10) are the other Germans on the list.

After conceding two goals to Costa Rica in an opening 4-2 win in Group A, Germany have chalked up three consecutive clean sheets with wins over group opponents Poland and Ecuador and a 2-0 victory over Sweden in the second round.

Sorry to all the Argies out there but i can’t really imagine Argentina beating Germany in Germany, especially not in Berlin. The Germans have the home advantage and they are in excellent form at the moment. Argentina are also in terrific form, i think they’ve played great so far but i think the home advantage will be too much for them to overcome. I reckon it’s going to be a real close one though.

Prediction: Germany 1 – Argentina 1. Germany win 2-1 in extra time.

hey argentina is a strong team and so is germany but the home crowd advantage coupled with referee’s blessings makes germany the favourites.being an argentine fan i would like to say that they are ableto win if they play a bit more piercing football than before. an early goal will shock the germans and they then can be defeated.

Yes i agree that it is possible for Argentina to win. But they aren’t going to, so i suggest you take on the chin. If the Argies win i’ll personally come over to India and shake your hand or if you’d prefer that i didn’t come over i’ll eat my hat right here.

Very tough match this one.
Germans are playing extremely well so far, has faced just one dangerous team Sweden and crashed them. No one has attacked Germans I presume they would be this time.
Agentines are playing fine but there is much to expect from them. Only Nederlands was an opponent to care from and was a draw. Mexico does not count, they never beat the Argentine before, not a big deal has been to win this match.
I predict 2-1 and the host to drown their sorrow into beer.

ARG:GER 2:3

Tough to choose, both are exciting to watch. Both have fast, free-flowing offenses and good enough defenses. But I think the home field tips it to Germany, who are hitting form at just the right time. Hopefully Argentina hasn’t peaked too early. Whoever wins this game, though, is going to the final. I just hope that it’s a good game, a clean game, and that the losers don’t whine.

This and the BRA:FRA game (two other sides hitting form) should be classics. I guess that makes up for the other 2 matches …

This will be a great game, but it seems like Germany struggled early but is improving, whereas Argentina peaked early but now is struggling.

They did tie the Netherlands (both teams used subs, so no excuses), and barely beat a Mexican-side that had several key injuries to midfielders.

Nevertheless, this game will be EPIC. I am looking forward to it and just dont’t want to see a mass of red cards and penalties.

Okay, I know everyone ways waiting for my predictions. Not sure why I part with such valuable information without compensation on here, but look for Argentina to win 3-2 as Klinsi’s back line is finally exposed. Lahm won’t be coming forward so much today; he will be busy on the other end. Ukraine surprises Italy 2-1 as well, with Shevchenko netting both goals.

I agree with Dave. Germany’s back line finally exposed and Ukraine to nick a likely win against the Italians.

Those Germans defence does not have to be tested to know their strength..,they know it’s good enough right..?
Arg. upfront is sharp, but is it good enough to cut through..?

Argentina is so amazing that I don’t understand why they even bother holding the World Cup.

Just trying to stay with the Argentina fans… :)

Serously, it should be a wild ride with either team capable of winning. Both teams will get chances, but the telling factor will be how well Germany transitions to defense. I think they’re up to it, and will win a classic matchup today…3-1 or maybe 3-2 if they get sloppy on defense.

I remember when Argentina played against Germany in Italy, the final, was a shame, Argentina was so much better than Germany, but the referee a mexican who hates Argentina did everything to make win Germany, even so Germany coudn’t make one gole, so 5 minutes before the end of the game the referre declared a penalty against Argentina, a penalty that NOBODY saw and in that way Germany won, just cheating.
Argentina is so much better
