I've listed the combinations of the four players I think are most likely to get called up: ... [read]

Wesley Sneijder's status has changed in his first Spanish season: "In the first weeks, the other players let you sort it out yourself if you needed to get to the training pitch. Now, players like Raul and Guti look for me in the dressing room and say: come on, Wes, let's go train."

Karim Benzema has been name Ligue 1's Player of the Year. He was handed the trophy by former top France player Zinedine Zidane. Expressions like "passing the torch" and "handing over the reins" come to mind.
Joking aside; I'd put down even money on Benzema to become the story of the ... [read]

A crowd of 20.000 gathered yesterday at Maksimir to greet the new/old Croatian First Division Champions, Dinamo Zagreb. That same crowd seemed to have inspired the reigning champions who went on to thrash Rijeka with a 6:1 scoreline. To make matters worse for the visiting side, the scoreline actually flattered them. ... [read]

FC Basel triumphed.
2-0 over close rivals Young Boys. 38,015 spectators showed up for the thrilling ending to a very spectacular championship.

Christian Gross' (Basel coach) nightmares following the 2006 draw with Zurich (with ... [read]

In 1988, Oranje won their first and only official prize (we were named best of the world in 1974 but forgot to win the last match). The next big tournament in 1990 was a ... [read]

Ajax lost the first play off finals leg against FC Twente. Away from home, Ajax did get the 0-1 through Suarez, but FC Twente turned it around 2-1. Two goals by Swiss striker Blaise N’Kufo. It seems the ref didn’t see a hand ball by Twente in the box, while he did spot the Ajax version of it.
Next week, Twente ... [read]

If Zenit Saint Petersburg will win UEFA Cup on 14th May it would be great opportunity – and temptation – for Guus Hiddink to fill Russian squad with Cup winners only.
CSKA Moscow did it in 2005 and five players immediately jumped into national team lineup. Igor Akinfeev, goalkeeper; Sergei ... [read]
