FIFA Refuses to Recognize Polish FA

All kinds of problems in Polish football this week, both in the stands and in the offices.

There was the above insanity where Wisla Plock fans went mental while visiting Flota Swinoujscie and attacked the home fans. All because Wisla lost 4-1. Seriously, it’s not Flota Swinoujscie’s fans’ fault that Wisla Plock are useless.

Of more concern to FIFA and UEFA, the management board of the Polish FA was suspended by the Polish government for its failure to deal with corruption. You’d think that was a good thing, no? But FIFA famously hates it when governments interfere with football. That’s their job.

So FIFA are refusing to recognize the new Polish FA administrator appointed by the government, which right now means that all faxes sent from Warsaw to Zurich go straight in the recycle bin. But FIFA are also considering the rather more dramatic option of banning Poland from all levels of competition, which could conceivably see Poland lose it’s role as Euro 2012 co-host. Gulp.

That’s disgraceful behaviour. That’s bad enough but to add to that the speed (or lack) of the preparations for Euro 2012 it’s appalling. I think the only action to be taken is to hand it to the next country on the list AKA Scotland, wouldn’t mind if Ireland were involoved either.

euro 2012 is in no danger. the preparations have been monitored by uefa and they seem confident enough about the progress. i guess not only scotland would be glad to take over, but italy, and probably a few others. well, you can all apply for euro 2016, good luck. the nearest tournament already has the hosts.
actually, we can lose the euros only in case uefa wants to punish poland for the government’s stepping onto the football authorities ground. it’s a matter of who has more power, nothing else. of course polish government couldn’t handle the matter more stupidly, introducing the administrator without giving any signal beforehand, and not consulting the decision with the european association.
