Euro 2008 Fake Photo Competition: Vote for the Winner
A long time ago, in a tournament far, far away, we started a Euro 2008 Fake Photo competition. Basically we asked readers and bloggers to manipulate Euro 2008 photos and make us laugh. We promised to narrow it down to a select few and then let a public vote decide the winner of the £100 [...]
UEFA Sets a Profit Record for Euro 2008
Good news for UEFA. Even after all expenses (including those fake disasters, the extra security AND that Henri Delaunay trophy hot air balloon) they recorded a record profit of 250m Euros (about $394 million.)
Martin Kallen, chief operating officer for the event organisers, said that in comparison with the 2004 finals in Portugal the 2008 [...]

Classic Euro Moments: Marco van Basten’s Euro ‘88 Volley
With Euro 2008 just beginning to appear on the horizon, we’re going to start picking out some great moments from European Championships history. And what better way to start than with Marco van Basten’s goal from 20 years ago. It was the 54th minute of Netherlands vs USSR in the Euro ‘88 final in the [...]
English Tabloid Seeks Football Team for Euro 2008, Non-German Preferred
Steve McClaren’s reputation wasn’t the only thing damaged by England’s failure to qualify for Euro 2008. There are all kinds of other consequences too. Sales of tabloid newspapers for example. Without an England team to build up and then knock down, without an army of WAGS to coo over and without an England manager to [...]
Euro 2008: Bad for Your Heart
The drama at tournaments like Euro 2008 is often described as “heart-stopping,” but in Austria they’re taking that very literally. Due to the risk of fans having heart attacks while supporting their team this summer the Viennese Union of Hospitals has banned all doctors in the Austrian capital from taking any holiday while the tournament [...]
Euro 2008: Swiss Bank Already Knows the Winner
Turns out we don’t even need to stage Euro 2008, because the Czech Republic are going to win. And they’re going to beat Italy in the final. On penalties. That’s according to Swiss bank UBS anyway. A team of their best mathematical boffins used statistical data like past performance, home advantage and FIFA world rankings [...]
